Justin Bieber Apologizes For Paparazzi Run-In

Plus, Selena Gomez’s rep denies she was attacked by a jealous Bieber fan.

Justin Bieber has experienced the many highs of fame, what with chart-topping albums, a blockbuster movie, sold-out tours and a dedicated fanbase. But on his 17th birthday, the star also came face-to-face with the one main drawback of being a celebrity: the onslaught of the paparazzi.

While Bieber was celebrating his birthday in Los Angeles on Tuesday, the star and his lady, teen queen Selena Gomez, were surrounded by paparazzi while leaving Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant, Popeater reported. In the heat of the moment, Bieber gave the hungry photogs the middle finger, while Gomez shielded her face from their flashing cameras.

Bieber later took to Twitter to clear the air about the incident and apologize for reacting the way he did. “Had a great bday and at the end of the night we got surrounded by paps and I reacted in a way I know better. I’m sorry #killthemwithkindness,” he shared, adding, “It’s not always easy but I know better than to react in anger.”

Shortly after that, rumors began to surface that Gomez was shielding her face from the many camera lenses because she had allegedly been punched by an angry Bieber fan over her relationship with the pop star. The Twitter trend #sorryjustin had some speculating that fans were apologizing for that one fan’s incident with the actress/singer.

But Gomez’s rep told People.com that there’s “absolutely no truth” to any of that. Photos from the night do, however, show what appears to be an injury of some kind on Gomez’s lip.

Lady Gaga Tears Up While Singing With Fan Maria Aragon

Gaga brings YouTube star onstage with her during tour stop in Toronto.

When 10-year-old Maria Aragon posted a video of herself on YouTube covering Lady Gaga’s latest pop smash, “Born This Way,” she probably had no idea what kind of opportunity the video would lead to.

It all started on February 17, when Gaga tweeted her praise for the young singer’s cover of her track. “Can’t stop crying watching this. This is why I make music. She is the future,” she wrote.

The love affair culminated in Gaga bringing the young Canadian fan onstage with her during her tour stop in Toronto. Gaga even posted a photo of them together backstage, making monster paws, each wearing T-shirts with the other’s image on it. Gaga shared, “Myself +10 year Old Lady Maria of Winnipeg. She signed my t-shirt, she ate my heart, just like you.”

In footage posted online, the crowd went crazy as the young singer took the stage decked out in a black leather jacket, a pink hoodie, sparkling black leggings and high-top sneakers. Gaga gave her a big hug, then sat down at the piano and put the girl on her lap as they sang “Born This Way” together.

“Maria represents what this song is all about,” Gaga told the excited crowd. “It’s all about the next generation and the future.”

As the pair sang the track acoustically, Gaga became visibly moved by the performance and tears began to form in her eyes. When the song ended, Aragon held up her stuffed orange monkey as she told the crowd, “I just want to thank all of you for your support. I hope you enjoyed it. Also, a shout-out to all my friends in Winnipeg and my family.”

Gaga continued to tear up as Aragon made her way offstage, telling the room, “Little monsters, thank Maria from Winnipeg.”

Justin Bieber’s ‘Never Say Never’ Is Third-Highest-Grossing Documentary Of All Time

Insiders say film could get nominated in documentary category at next year’s Oscars.
By Gil Kaufman

The kid is hot. First, Justin Bieber became the first person since, well, himself to land two albums in the top five on the Billboard 200, and now his 3-D movie, “Never Say Never,” has vaulted into the #3 position on the list of top-grossing documentaries of all time.

According to Box Office Mojo, “Never” has grossed $64,162,036 to date, putting it on track to possibly overtake the #2 doc of all time, “March of the Penguins,” which grossed more than $77 million. It’s unlikely to knock off the top documentary of all time, Michael Moore’s 2004 flick “Fahrenheit 9/11,” which rolled up $119 million, but with the “Never” director’s cut re-release last weekend (which brought in another $9 million), Bieber is positioned to conquer yet another medium.

In his run to the top, Bieber has leaped over such lauded and popular docs as “Super Size Me,” Madonna’s “Truth or Dare,” Moore’s “Bowling for Columbine,” former Vice President Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth” and the nature flick “Earth.” It also took the crown for the biggest opening weekend of any documentary, with a $29.5 million first weekend, squeezing past the $23 million open of “Fahrenheit.”

Hollywood may end up catching Bieber Fever as well, with The Hollywood Reporter asking in a recent article whether “Never” could land the 17-year-old phenom a spot at the Oscars next year. A source told the trade magazine that “Never” had serious buzz at some post-Oscar parties thanks to its healthy grosses, which have impressed some Academy members.

“You’d be surprised at the caliber of people who came up to Justin at the Vanity Fair party at the Sunset Tower, most of whom had seen the movie and loved it,” said an unnamed insider. “There was even talk of putting it up for an Oscar next year in the documentary category. People appreciate that it’s not just a kids’ movie.” The article mentioned that Bieber was one of the brightest stars at the Fair party, chatting up Rolling Stones singer Mick Jagger and working the room like a pro.

Britney Spears Says ‘Till The World Ends’ Has ‘Good Energy’

‘If it puts me in a good mood, it clicks for me,’ singer tells Ryan Seacrest of Ke$ha-penned track.

Britney Spears got her fans amped up for her forthcoming album, Femme Fatale, when she released its second single, “Till the World Ends,” on Thursday. The chugging, Ke$ha-penned club banger is all about getting your dance on. And when Spears stopped by Ryan Seacrest’s radio show on Friday (March 4), she admitted that the song just felt right for her as soon as she heard it.

” ‘Till the World Ends’ is fun! It’s fun. I like it. It’s good energy,” she said of the track, which was produced by Dr. Luke, Max Martin and Billboard. “I’m a vibe person, and I think I love good-mood songs, and if it puts me in a good mood, it clicks for me.”

As for the album, which already spawned a chart-topping single, “Hold It Against Me,” she teased, “I think it’s my best work yet. I listened to it on the way over here. It’s definitely something you want to work out to. … And I’m a dancer, so it’s definitely something I can work with.”

“Oh my God! Will.i.am is amazing,” Spears said of the producer, who teased the track “The Big Fat Bass” recently. “He’s so much fun and he’s funny and he’s a charm. His music is so much fun. When they told me I was going to be working with him, I couldn’t wait. If it gets you going, you get excited, and he has that type of energy.”

In addition to talking about the album, Spears also shared plans for a summer tour. And she talked about how she’s keeping in shape these days as she amps up to promote the album, which drops March 29. “I have a trainer. [I go] on the treadmill for 30 minutes and we do a lot of cardio, running,” she explained. “He kicks my butt. You pay to hate your trainer!”

It seems that the workout regimen has also had an effect on her beau, talent agent Jason Trawick, who, according to Seacrest, was “pudgy” before he hooked up with the pop star. “He wasn’t pudgy,” she laughed. “He wasn’t pudgy. He is definitely ripped. He just got on this health kick. I guess he’s on a health kick. He eats what he wants.”

Mel Gibson Charged With Spousal Battery

Actor set to appear at L.A. hearing on Friday to face misdemeanor count stemming from incident with ex Oksana Grigorieva.

Mel Gibson was charged with one misdemeanor count of spousal battery on Friday (March 11), mere hours before the troubled actor is scheduled to appear in Los Angeles Superior Court for a hearing regarding his ex-girlfriend, Oksana Grigorieva.

Last July, police opened up an investigation into an incident involving the actor and his ex after they conducted an interview with Grigorieva.

The pair dated after Gibson divorced his wife of 26 years — he was separated from his wife for three years before she finally petitioned for the dissolution of their marriage — and Grigorieva gave birth to the couple’s daughter. They later split, however, and a nasty custody case ensued with each side tossing unflattering allegations against the other.

Grigorieva painted Gibson as an out-of-control and abusive partner; a leaked voicemail message Gibson left on Grigorieva’s phone contained racially charged language and threats, including one in which the “Lethal Weapon” star threatened to burn his former lover’s house down.

Gibson, meanwhile, alleged Grigorieva — a Russian recording artist who was at one time signed to the actor’s music label — was attempting to extort the actor after their affair ended.

In the domestic abuse case against Gibson, Grigorieva alleges that he attacked her and knocked two of her teeth out during a physical altercation. She also claims Gibson threatened her at his Malibu estate with a handgun. Lawyers for Gibson have disputed all of the claims and argued that the audio samplings provided by Grigorieva have been edited and tampered with.

Britney Spears May Release Ke$ha-Penned Track As Next Single

‘Till The World Ends’ expected out sometime next week.
By Jocelyn Vena

Slowly but surely, fans are getting a taste of what Britney Spears’ March 29 album release, Femme Fatale, will sound like. On Wednesday, Spears slowed things down with the tease for her track “Criminal” and psyched fans up with the news that she worked with Travis Barker on the album.

Fans are speculating that the next single released will be the Ke$ha-penned track, “Till the World Ends.” Art for the single’s cover, in which Spears appears sitting on a couch in a sweater and heels, was posted at Deezer.com.

A 30-second snippet of the song appeared on Amazon.de, which indicates that the single will be available on March 11. The track sounds like a fist-pumping anthem, and the sample showcases Spears’ electronically enhanced vocals going “Oh-oh-oh-oh-oh.”

The single will reportedly drop sometime next week, according to a tweet sent out by Tampa radio station 93.3 FM. “Hearing from Jive Records that we’ll have a new @BritneySpears single to play next week!”

Ke$ha recently dished about the track to Spin.com, noting that the song is about the power of an artist performing a great gig. “That song is me imagining her and any female musician touring the world,” she says. “You know, when you go out, and you’re having an amazing, magical night and you don’t want to go to sleep and you want it to last until the world ends.”

Spears’ longtime manager Larry Rudolph recently told MTV News that he’s super-excited about the next single off Femme Fatale. “I don’t think I’ve been this excited about releasing a Britney single in many, many years,” he said. “It’s that good. That’s all I’m gonna say about it at the moment. I haven’t heard a final mix of it, but I should get it in the next day or two. So far, what I’ve heard is just extraordinary. It really is amazing. Her fans will be very happy with it. I’m trying hard to get it out before the album comes out.”

For those keeping count, it’s not the first time Ke$ha and Spears have worked together. Ke$ha appeared on the Circus song “Lace and Leather.” “I just did backgrounds for her ’cause I was so broke. I needed to pay my rent,” she shared back in 2009. “I got a few bucks. No, [I didn't meet her]. I just did backups for her.”

YouTube Sensation Mr. Plinkett Branches Out With Weekly Review Show

Red Letter Media’s Mike Stoklasa finishes evisceration of ‘Star Wars,’ creates ‘Half in the Bag’ to skewer movies on more regular basis.
By Shawn Adler

His video eviscerations of the “Star Wars” prequels were among last year’s most anticipated, widely viewed online videos, garnering millions of views, inspiring new discussions of copyright in the digital age, and making celebrity fans ranging from Simon Pegg to Roger Ebert. But now that Mike Stoklasa, aka Mr. Plinkett, has finished carving up George Lucas — his “Revenge of Nadine: Episode III Review Epilogue” dropped Thursday (March 10) — the Milwaukee based writer/director turned millennial critic is breaking out the entire cutlery set for his next target.

And this time, nobody will be safe, Stoklasa laughed in an interview with MTV News.

Titled “Half in the Bag,” Stoklasa and friend Jay Bauman have launched a new online review program which will skewer current Hollywood movies in a more traditional review format, a “mix between ‘Pee-Wee’s Playhouse’ and ‘At the Movies,’” Stoklasa revealed in an email conversation. Their first effort, which imagines the pair as VCR repairmen sent to Mr. Plinkett’s house, premiered late Friday evening (March 11).

The show is an attempt to cross something like “Siskel and Ebert” with a 80s era sitcom, Stoklasa explained, with the two hosts sitting across from each other while discussing new releases. For Stoklasa, it means that for the first time he’ll be lobbing critical bombs in front of the camera, rather than from behind, a switch he said he made, not without some trepidation, to avoid “the same old thing.”

“I was a bit concerned with revealing the ‘man behind the curtain,’, but it’s just not in my nature to go on doing the same thing. If I did that people would say ‘The Plinkett reviews are getting old and worn out,’” he wrote. “We don’t want things to stay the same.”

An expansion of and not a replacement for the trademark video stylings of Mr. Plinkett, the program is also an attempt to “make new material for people on a regular basis” while avoiding the labor intensive process inherent in the earlier reviews, Stoklasa wrote.

“I like talking about movies and analyzing them, but sometimes it’s fun to deviate into other things and the traditional Mr. Plinkett reviews just take a really long time to make,” he wrote. “I will still continue to make the Mr. Plinkett reviews where I do the voice and everything, but we’re going to do this too.”

But not all will be different, Stoklasa cautioned. Fans of his earlier reviews will see a familiar through-line, he said, as the program will contain cutaways, random sound effects, and even skits, such as a portion of the first review where George Lucas comes to destroy their set.

Of those familiar tropes, perhaps the most familiar will be Plinkett himself, who will appear to audiences in front of the camera played by Rich Evans.

“We toyed with the idea of never showing his face and me dubbing over all of his lines, but it would have been very time consuming to light that for each shot and to have to do all the ADR,” Stoklasa wrote. “Plus, I think Rich is funny in the part, he adds a lot to the role and makes it his own. Rich is really great with awkward physical comedy and comes up with a lot of good ideas on set. Hopefully people will appreciate that there is ‘Plinkett A’ and ‘Plinkett B’ and to understand that Plinkett A is not going away.”

Since the show takes place in the fictional construct of Mr. Plinkett’s living room, where the pair are on a never ending quest to fix an old VCR, Stoklasa believes there’s room to criticize not just new movies, but any film that Plinkett might have in his expansive video catalogue, meaning that while the first episode centered on new films like “Drive Angry” and “The Adjustment Bureau,” older films are not off-limits.

“The format is open to us doing anything,” he said. “We’ll probably wind up with more current stuff for the primary reviews, but we’ll do old B-movies and stuff like that too. We love terrible old B-Movies quite a bit and I have a sick fascination with movies that are so bad they’re funny.”

For now, “the hope is to do it weekly,” Stoklasa wrote. The next episode of “Half in the Bag” premiers early next week.

Ke$ha’s ‘Blow’ Director Addresses Lady Gaga ‘Unicorn’ Flap

Unicorn cameos in ‘Born This Way’ and ‘Blow’ videos is ‘just weird coincidence,’ Chris Marrs Piliero tells MTV News.
By Jocelyn Vena

The brand-new videos for Ke$ha’s “Blow” and Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” couldn’t be more different. But fans on the Web have been comparing the clips, thanks to a special cameo the two videos have in common. With unicorns appearing in both “Blow” and “BTW,” some Gaga fans are accusing the K-Dollar of stealing from their Mother Monster.

But MTV News spoke to “Blow” director Chris Marrs Piliero, who explained that it’s pure coincidence his video and the Nick Knight-directed video both feature unicorns.

“It’s very odd. It’s one of those weird things, and I think a lot of people on the Internet don’t grasp the sense of time [that goes into making videos]. Some Gaga fans, they don’t realize that just because it was announced there might be a unicorn [in Gaga's video], it’s like, we didn’t film the video after that announcement,” he said.

“It’s like [the movies] ‘Dante’s Peak’ and ‘Volcano’ and then there was ‘Armageddon’ and ‘Deep Impact.’ I don’t know, I know when things like that happen when I was a part of the audience, I was like, ‘That’s weird and fishy,’ but now being on the other side, it’s just weird coincidences,” he explained. “What are the odds of that?”

In fact, Piliero had a gut feeling that he should use unicorns many, many moons ago and he thought Ke$ha was the right artist to join with the mythological creatures onscreen.

“Ke$ha was looking to make kind of something different, a video that was cool and random, and I had this idea running in my head with just the idea of unicorns,” he recalled. “If I massacred unicorns, they could bleed rainbows. I’m a fan of violence and I’m always trying to find a way to make it OK.”

The rainbow-spewing unicorns weren’t the only cameo that Piliero hoped to nab. He also wanted “Dawson’s Creek” star James Van Der Beek to appear in the clip. “He’s such an awesome guy. He was down for it,” he said. “He had seen the Black Keys video [I shot] and he was stoked on the idea. It was so much fun. He and Ke$ha kind of went for all the craziness. I think he has a fantastic comic side. He’s good at being naturally funny. It’s about the delivery.”

Ke$ha, of course, was onboard for all the zaniness. “Before we started filming, we had quite a few talks. She was adamant you can’t back away from the crazy; everything about the idea she loved and she enforced the fact that she wanted to embrace every aspect of it and really go for it,” he recalled. “On set, she was having fun. She was like, ‘I want to lick a unicorn.’ It was rad working with her because there definitely wasn’t a sense of her feeling awkward about stuff or detached; no ego. It felt like we had worked together before.”

Lady Gaga Says No Duets On Born This Way

‘I want to stand on my own two feet,’ Gaga says.
By Jocelyn Vena

Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage

On Lady Gaga’s 2009 smash The Fame Monster, the eccentric star hooked up with one of the fiercest ladies in the game when she and Beyoncé got their party on for the club anthem “Telephone.” The singers then appeared together in an over-the-top music video in which they played a Quentin Tarantino-esque version of Thelma and Louise.

As the May 23 release date of Gaga’s latest musical opus Born This Way draws near, the singer’s little monsters are wondering if the star has secured any A-list talent for a collaboration on the new album.

In a recent radio chat, Gaga revealed that she’s not planning on having anyone guest on Born This Way, according to Digital Spy. “I want to stand on my own two feet. I’ve already collaborated with my favorite female in the business,” she teased. “We’ll see how I’m feeling when I’m wrapping up the album.”

With the anticipation for the record so high, fans are beginning to piece together the puzzle of BTW. Reported lyrics for her second single, “Judas,” have already hit the Internet. On the track, Gaga waxes poetic about a lover whom she loves more than he loves her.

“Judas/ You never ever never/ Ever really ever loved me more, than I/ But Nemesis is watching over-high,” she reportedly sings. “And this is your time/ Judas, lie on lie, write/ Tears drop ’cause I cry/ The echo truth killed you so you may finally die.”

Lyrics for another BTW track, “Government Hooker,” also reportedly found their way onto the Internet. A remix of the song debuted last week at the Thierry Mugler fashion show in Paris.

On the song, Gaga sings, “We had our night/ Our real nature/ No more time to decide/ Let it climb, let it ignite/ I can be cool/ I can be anything/ I’ll be your everything/ Just touch me baby.”

Ne-Yo Creating ‘I Heart Tuesday’ For Cartoon Network

Singer says animated series will follow a teenage girl’s fight against evil.

Photo: Frazer Harrison/Getty Images

Ne-Yo might be a singer, songwriter and actor, but he’s looking to expand his résumé even further by creating his very own show. In an interview with the Associated Press, the “Beautiful Monster” star revealed that he has inked a deal with Cartoon Network to produce an animated series.

The show, which he said he created for his sister, is called “I Heart Tuesday” and is expected to begin production soon. As for the plot of the show, Ne-Yo said the forthcoming series is about “a 16-year-old girl that inherits the curse of her bloodline and she’s forced to save the world from the unknown evil every Tuesday for the rest of her life.”

In addition to the animated series, the 31-year-old singer revealed he’s creating a line of hats. This isn’t the first time Ne-Yo has spoken about other business ventures. Back in August, the hitmaker told MTV Style, “I’ve been talking to some people about doing a hat line, in that the hat is what I’m most known for,” the singer said. “It’s odd that the hat is more popular than the music? And possibly a fragrance, but I don’t know what I smell like, so I don’t know if I want people to smell like me. I mean, I know I don’t stink. But everything is in conversation right now.”

In the meantime, fans can catch the entertainer in the sci-fi flick “Battle: Los Angeles,” which hit theaters Friday (March 11).

Justin Bieber’s Hairstylist Says They Knew Haircut Would ‘Shock Fans’

‘We knew it was going to be a big deal,’ Vanessa Price tells MTV News.
By Jocelyn Vena

When Justin Bieber isn’t making headlines about his dates with Selena Gomez, he’s making hair-related news. This month alone his hairdo led to some healthy debate and then, earlier this week, it was learned that a lock of Bieber’s famous hair sold at auction for $40,668 (the proceeds went to charity).

When MTV News caught up with Bieber’s hairstylist, Vanessa Price, she admitted that she was surprised the hair sold for that much money, but grateful that someone had the funds to help the Gentle Barn Foundation, an animal rescue organization in California.

“It’s great and it’s for charity and how great is it that we have something that’s disposable that’s worth something,” she said. “It’s a lot of money, but like I said, we’re just so lucky that that’s happened.”

The star’s shorn locks might end up doing a lot of good, but fans couldn’t initially get over Bieber’s decision to lop off those famous swooping bangs.

“We knew it was going to be a big deal,” Price explained. “We knew it was going to shock fans, but we also knew it was going to be a change in terms of growing up. I think that’s something that people adjust to.

“We’d been talking about it for a while and shared some ideas, but literally the day off he was adamant about the haircut. He amped himself up for it,” Price continued, before describing his momentary hesitation. “The minute we started cutting, he was like, ‘Wait, wait, wait.’ He loves it. He’s enjoying it.”

Girls certainly have always been drawn to Bieber because of that signature ‘do (which she calls the 1.0), but Price says that his camp quickly got over any PR doubts that arose when the idea of the haircut was brought to them. “I mean, I’m not gonna say that everyone was 100 percent onboard,” she revealed. “But they trusted in Justin’s style and my abilities and they kind of held their breath.”

These days, Bieber has readjusted his styling techniques for the shorter look. “With his hair before he didn’t require any product. It was super-easy and now that it was cut shorter and choppier, he wanted to be able to experiment,” she explained. “I’m not around all the time, but I definitely groomed him into learning how to do his own hair.

“I don’t know if it’s more work but I told him it’s the ‘we don’t care haircut, just do it haircut,’ ” she continued. “The 1.0 version, it was cut a certain direction, it was cut to style. He’s loving it right now and he’s liking experimenting, so I think we’ll just see that it’s a natural evolution for any young adult.”

Price says she’s only had positive feedback from his dedicated legion of Beliebers, much to her relief. “The only things I’ve heard were positive, so that makes me really happy because the fans were taken into consideration,” she said. “They’re a huge part. Without them, we wouldn’t be here. Since that haircut I have a fan club now. It’s all positive.”

Lady Gaga Designs Japanese Tsunami Relief Wristband

Mother Monster tweets that all proceeds from sales of prayer bracelets will go to those affected by Friday’s tragic disaster.

Lady Gaga is doing her part to help those affected by the 8.9-magnitude earthquake that struck Japan on Friday (March 11). The devastating quake triggered a 10-meter tsunami and now threatens Pacific coastal areas, including Hawaii and the West Coast.

The star tweeted on Friday that she has designed a special wristband with all of the proceeds going to benefit those affected by the disaster.

“I Designed a Japan Prayer Bracelet. Buy It/Donate here and ALL proceeds will go to Tsunami Relief Efforts. Go Monsters,” Gaga wrote.

She then shared a link with more information about the red-and-white bracelet on which the words “we pray for Japan” are written along with an image of a hand making Gaga’s signature monster paw gesture. “Little Monsters, show your support for Japan with this ‘We Pray for Japan’ wristband! Choose your price to add an additional donation with your wristband,” the description for the bracelet reads. “All proceeds go directly to Japan relief efforts.”

Gaga is the latest celebrity to reach out and help shed light on the devastation left by the tragic events in Japan. Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Adam Lambert, Diddy and many more sent their prayers to those affected via Twitter. Britney Spears encouraged fans to donate to relief organizations, tweeting, “So tragic. My heart is breaking for Japan.”

“Just heard about the huge earthquake and tsunami in Japan,” Kim Kardashian wrote. “My prayers are with everyone in Japan. Seeing all of this footage in Japan is devastating! Please help the people of Japan by texting REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.”

Beyonce, Leonardo DiCaprio Lead Flurry Of Movie Remakes

Russell Brand, Willow Smith, Jonah Hill are just a few stars looking to revamp film and TV classics like ‘Arthur’, ‘Annie’ and ’21 Jump Street.’

What do Willow Smith and Beyoncé have in common with Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill and Kenny Wormald? They’re all starring (or in talks to star) in the latest round of remakes of beloved films and TV shows coming down the pike.

On Thursday, news broke that Beyoncé would be starring in a Clint Eastwood-directed remake of the 1976 Barbra Streisand classic “A Star Is Born” (which was a remake of a 1954 movie that remade a 1937 film). In the meantime, Will Smith is reportedly petitioning Sony to remake “Annie” (the 1982 movie and 1977 musical) starring his 10-year-old daughter, Willow, best known for whipping her hair.

In October it was announced that Leonardo DiCaprio and best bud Tobey Maguire would be starring in Baz Luhrmann’s 3-D retelling of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel “The Great Gatsby,” with Carey Mulligan joining as Daisy Buchanan.

Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have been working on bringing the ’80s Johnny Depp-starring television series “21 Jump Street” to the big screen since 2008, and they might even get Depp to cameo in it in time for the film’s March 16, 2012, release date.

And let’s not forget the long hunt for a Ren McCormack (the character Kevin Bacon made famous in 1984), after Zac Efron and Chace Crawford dropped out of the planned “Footloose” remake that finally landed dancer Kenny Wormald the role of his life.

Then there’s “Arthur,” the Russell Brand-starring remake of the 1981 screwball comedy about a happily drunk millionaire who risks everything for love. The film has tapped everyone from Helen Mirren to Greta Gerwig and Nick Nolte.

Two recently announced remakes are “Lethal Weapon” and “The Wizard of Oz,” which are still in early development and without stars attached. Warner Bros. announced their plans to reboot the Mel Gibson-starring franchise on Thursday and tapped writer Will Beall to pen the script with completely new characters. And director Robert Zemeckis announced back in November that he planned on remaking the 1939 Technicolor classic using the script from the original film, with Warner Bros. hoping Robert Downey Jr. will play Oz.

Just this past year, films from “Clash of the Titans” to “The Karate Kid” to “A Nightmare on Elm Street” were remade for the big screen and were well-received by audiences. “Alice in Wonderland” and “Clash of the Titans” went on to become two of the top 10 highest-grossing films of 2010, while “Piranha 3D” and “The A-Team” also went on to strong successes, proving that there definitely is a market for these kinds of remakes.

Lady Gaga Producer Calls ‘Government Hooker’ A ‘Beast’

DJ White Shadow talks to MTV News about the Born This Way track, which he dubs his ‘favorite song.’
By Jocelyn Vena

Earlier this week, fans got a taste of the new Born This Way track “Government Hooker,” which made its debut during a Mugler fashion show in Paris. The song’s producer, DJ White Shadow, called “Hooker” a thumping, sexy track.

“To me, that song is my favorite song, and it’s just a beast,” he told MTV News. “I don’t even know how to explain it. [Born This Way] is not a pop album; it’s a pop masterpiece of music. If there was no category of pop music, you wouldn’t call it pop music.”

Shadow recalled how the song came together — and let’s just say what happens in Vegas doesn’t always stay there. “We were in this studio in Vegas, and I was playing some hip-hop stuff [for Gaga's label boss Vince Herbert], and I ran across this [old beat I had made], and we were talking about faster songs, so I sped it up and I played it for Vince.”

It seems the new version of the beat, which Shadow had worked on with DJ Snake ages before he played it in that Vegas studio, was the magic that Herbert was looking for. “He was like, ‘Whoa.’ She walked in, and I played it for her and [producer] Fernando [Garibay]. She laid it out in two seconds. She sang over the melody and tuned it up and put the chorus in. She finished it super quick.”

There’s a Euro-sounding robot on the track, which comes courtesy of someone in Gaga’s inner circle. “The guy that’s actually talking, that’s her security guard,” White Shadow revealed. “We were sitting there thinking how to make a computerized voice, so we were like, ‘Let’s get Pete in here.’ He’s got a super-thick Dutch accent, and he’s trying to read off paper. It was insane, and he just talks like that. That’s what it’s like working with Gaga. It’s like a f—ing supernova. When she walks into a room, things explode.”

The lyrics, White Shadow said, were written right there on the spot. “She thinks of sh– that I can’t comprehend,” he said. “It doesn’t make sense to me, and I’m a creative person.”

A credit to her charm and smarts, Shadow summed Gaga up like this: “Working with her is totally different than anyone else I’ve ever done anything with. She’s the most hands-on person I’ve ever run into. She could walk into Steve Jobs’ office and tell him he’s doing Apple wrong, and he’d listen. As a producer, it’s super cool to be with somebody who generally cares and is fully involved.”

What do you think of “Government Hooker”? Let us know in the comments!

Lupe Fiasco Recording Food & Liquor Sequel

The Chicago MC says the Lasers follow-up will include ‘some really hard-ass songs.’
By Jayson Rodriguez

Lupe Fiasco
Photo: MTV News

It’s not exactly one step forward and two steps back, but after aiming for mass appeal on his recently released Lasers LP, Lupe Fiasco is already hard at work on the follow-up, which he described, surprisingly, as a “hood album.”

“There’s no attempt to get on the radio, except maybe once, thus far, it’s still a work in progress,” he told MTV News about his next effort. “It’s a harder album — the beats are way harder. It’s not about being progressive. It’s not about making music, which is weird [to say]. It’s ‘let’s make some really hard-ass songs.’ ”

Regardless of the change in direction, the project should still manage to get plenty of attention: It’s called Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor 2 and is the sequel to the Chicago MC’s heralded debut.

So far, he hasn’t recorded any material for Food & Liquor 2 that includes the cast of characters he introduced on his debut and his sophomore set, The Cool.

Fiasco does plan on reintroducing those concepts, but the collection is, at this point, more along the lines of “S.L.R. (Super Lupe Rap),” a lyrical dynamo that the rapper unleashed online last year in the wake of a comment made by Soulja Boy about MC-ing.

“It’s not an attempt to remake Food & Liquor,” Lupe explained, citing “SLR” as an example of the project’s DNA. “It’s not any attempt to reshape it or reintroduce it. I just think Food & Liquor was a dope title and I wanted to use it again.”

Usher, Ke$ha And More Help Dance Music Go Pop In 2010

But is it here to stay? Our music-industry experts weigh in.
By Akshay Bhansali

Ke$ha
Photo: Andreas Rentz/ Getty Images

In 2010, pop princesses, R&B icons and chart-dominating newcomers all danced to the same beat. Not only did dance music go pop, but pop music caught the club-music bug.

Between Katy Perry’s “Firework,” Ke$ha’s “We R Who We R,” Rihanna’s “Only Girl (In the World),” Enrique Iglesias’ “I Like It,” Usher’s “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love” and “OMG” and countless other singles, established artists definitely looked to dance beats for surefire hits. And two of this year’s biggest success stories in music were Jason Derülo and Taio Cruz; could there be a soul left in this country who hasn’t heard “Dynamite” or “In My Head”?

The love went both ways, with dance music’s biggest stars finding mainstream success this year. Dance-music maestro deadmau5 took up house-artist duties at this year’s VMAs, and Swedish House Mafia and Usher teamed up for a medley of their gems at the American Music Awards.

So how did this happen? We caught up with some music-industry experts to get their takes.

“You definitely saw tempos go up this year,” Jon Caramanica of The New York Times told MTV News. “And I think what you had are a lot of producers who are really familiar with nightclub stuff. They are familiar with Europe. Things are happening on a more global scale now.”

“I think everything from Europe, and sometimes even Asia, it comes to America, and we just adopt things a little bit slower,” said Jared Eng of JustJared.com. “I think it was just a change. People like different types of music at different times. And dance was of this moment.”

Noah Callahan of Complex magazine added: “I think 2010 saw the merging of the pop and dance genres. Pop artists realized that there were best practices that could be borrowed from dance music. And, ultimately, [all] pop music that has been made in the past 20 years had ended up being remixed for the club by dance artists. I think they basically just cut out the middleman and went straight there.”

Dance music being introduced into the hip-hop and R&B realms was particularly notable this year.

“I think David Guetta kind of at the end of last year and the beginning of this year spearheaded it,” said freelance writer Julianne Escobedo Shepherd. “He produced a lot of tracks. I think as trends go, people revile ‘unst-unst.’ But it’s just coming back around. Big-room techno was a way for people to get decadent in a year that no one could get decadent.”

“You have someone like will.i.am, who’s like, ‘Well, I spent all this time in Ibiza, and this is what they are doing,’ and he wants to find a way to bring that into his music,” Caramanica said of the Black Eyed Peas mastermind. “R&B especially became dance music. And especially with your Jason Derülos, Taio Cruzes. Guys like that would have literally been blocked at the border two years ago. That would not have made it through customs. And now all of a sudden they have #1 songs. I think will.i.am had a lot to do with that last year.”

Elliott Wilson of RapRadar.com added: “It’s actually even affected hip-hop. I was talking to Q-Tip, and his next record, I feel like that’s gonna kind of go in that vein. I know that was also Jay-Z’s thought process with Blueprint 3 at first, that he wanted to make a little bit more of a world music [vibe], a little more dancey. I think the kids today want to go to the clubs. They wanna have a good time. They wanna dance. So I think the artists of today are trying to kind of feed that audience.”

“I think it’s caught on this year because the people who’ve done it have been successful,” offered Clover Hope of Vibe magazine. “Like ‘OMG,’ with usher, he didn’t have success until he made a dance record. He had ‘There Goes My Baby’ and these really, like, adult-contemporary records that didn’t really catch on. And then once you see that everybody is doing it and that people are liking it, they are like, ‘OK, let me just try this out.’ It’s like Auto-Tune. Like, ‘Let me see what I sound like on a record by David Guetta.’ They end up liking it and doing more of it.”

So does the club-music trend have staying power. According to our tastemakers, not so much.

“I do think it’s a blip,” Caramanica said. “I don’t think that’s gonna be something that lasts in America. I think this is gonna be a moment we’ll all look back on and go, ‘Wasn’t that weird when Jason Derülo and Taio Cruz had #1 records?”

“At some point, these R&B artists will get kind of sick of it and be like, ‘Let me go back to my soul background,’ ” Hope said. “When you actually have to say something, dance doesn’t really lend itself to substance. And I think that R&B artists, they really want to talk about love and in a deep way, and to do that, you need to do, like, a soul or a traditional R&B record. I want to say that it’s kind of a fad.”

“I think music is very cyclical,” Eng offered. “So I think dance music might be here for a little bit, but I’m sure it will phase out at some point.”

Wilson called dance music “the sound of today. I think that people want more aggressive, faster beats, and I think that that probably has legs until at least next summer.”

What do you think? Is dance music here to stay? Let us know in the comments!

Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Slash Light Up Super Bowl XLV Halftime Show

Foursome is joined by special guests and tons of lights for smash-hit medley.

The Black Eyed Peas promised a party at the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday (February 6), and the pop supernovas definitely delivered, with a performance teeming with lights, dancers and surprise appearances from celebrity pals.

Following a Chatter.com commercial that showed animated versions of the Peas showing off their social-media skills, the group kicked things off with their 2009 smash “I Gotta Feeling,” descending from the ceiling on illuminated platforms onto a stage surrounded by a cluster of dancers clad in white bodysuits. The foursome led the team of fist-pumping troops in “Tron”-like getups, with Taboo sporting an outfit covered in flashing lights, will.i.am rocking a shiny hairpiece, Apl.de.ap wearing huge bright studs and Fergie vamping it up in bling-laden shoulder pads.

When the speaker-busting bass of “Boom Boom Pow” dropped, the dancers dispersed across the field to create arrow-shaped formations as the glow-in-the-dark lights on their suits illuminated the stadium. Then rumored surprise guest Slash of Guns N’ Roses rose from below the stage for a “Sweet Child O’ Mine” duet with Fergie. The GNR great rocked a finger-searing solo in a studded version of his signature black top hat as more angular platforms and dancers moved across the gridiron. The platforms were bearing scores of marching-band musicians who blasted their horns and pounded away on their drums as the Peas went into “Pump It” and blue lights splashed across the production.

Quick streams of fog heralded the arrival of the Peas’ second surprise guest, Usher, who swooped in on a long chain to bust out his will.i.am-assisted joint “OMG.” Rocking a sparkly collar on an otherwise all-white ensemble, the R&B hitmaker cranked out several counts of energetic choreography, enlivening moves from his “OMG” video and at one point jumping over Will and landing in a split.

A spray of pyro ushered in the collective’s breakout 2003 hit “Where Is the Love?” as the oddly shaped platforms spelled out the word “Love” in bright-red letters. The team of dancers, which appeared to have multiplied to over 100, formed hearts across the field as will updated the lyrics of the smash with lines like, “Obama, let’s get these educated.”

Then the group jumped ahead to their most recent single, 2010′s “The Time (Dirty Bit),” as several back up hoofers rocking cubed helmets joined the Peas onstage and dancers lined up along the gridiron to simultaneously bust out the Running Man, a move which drew cheers from the crowd.

The platinum-selling Peas wrapped up the performance with a reprise of “I Gotta Feeling,” as the quartet triumphantly signed off amid of blitz of fog, firepower and flashing lights.

Ripping the halftime show was clearly a touching moment for will, who tweeted beforehand, “Me and apl started the peas when we were 16 yesterday we were dreamin now were livin it. Wow. I’m not crying out of sadness or nervousness its joy and pride and memories and the journey.”

And once the crew left the stage, the frontman was not only proud, but pumped. “That was so freakin sick,” he wrote. “Wow…!!!”

What did you think of the Black Eyed Peas’ Super Bowl performance? Let us know in the comments!

Lloyd Banks Has Plans For Recently Freed Prodigy

Rapper says he and Mobb Deep vet ‘gonna get something done.’
By D.L. Chandler, with reporting by Sway Calloway

G-Unit foot solider Lloyd Banks is enjoying quite the resurgence in his nearly decade-long career.

The “Beamer, Benz or Bentley” rapper sat down with MTV News in Las Vegas to talk about the public reception of his H.F.M. 2 (Hunger for More 2) album, longevity in the rap game and collaborating with recently freed rap veteran Prodigy, of Mobb Deep fame.

Regarding his latest album, Banks said, “I feel like the reception matches the first one. For me, it’s gonna have a little more extra meaning to it,” he continued, “because I remember you come in as a brand-new artist, you feel like it’s gonna be that way forever.”

“I was just watching Snoop perform,” he added. “In my mind, I’m like, ‘Damn, it’s going two decades into the game,’ and I’ve been in the game approaching a decade now with putting out music. It’s kind of expected for you to do good, then 10 years later when you do good, it’s a whole ‘nother feeling.”

The self-proclaimed Punch Line King announced a special track he has in mind for his former G-Unit teammate Prodigy. “I haven’t spoken to him yet,” Banks said. “We gonna get something done.”

Banks added that he has, however, been in contact with the gruff-voiced rapper’s longtime producer and comrade the Alchemist and promised that the pair will work together. He mentioned that he already has a record in mind for the collaboration, which would include another artist. “I had the crazy record, [but] I’m not gonna say the other feature, but hopefully I get a good one,” he teased.

Who would you like to hear collaborate with Lloyd Banks? Tell us below!

Justin Bieber Lands Two Albums In Billboard Top Five

The feat marks the first time this accomplishment has been achieved since last year, when Bieber also had two albums in the top five.
By Gil Kaufman

Justin Bieber has become such a musical sales force that now the only competition left is, well, Justin Bieber. After landing the #1 album last week with his Never Say Never – The Remixes, Bieber had to settle for #2 this week to make room for Adele’s 21. But the rush of attention on the now-17-year-old pop star thanks to his big-screen debut in “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” helped propel his nearly year-old My World 2.0 back into the top five at #5, a feat that Billboard Associate Director of Charts Keith Caulfield said was a “very big deal.”

In fact, Bieber is the first artist to have two albums in the top five at the same time since he achieved the same feat nearly a year ago. The last time it happened was in March of 2010 when 2.0 debuted at #1 while the singer’s debut, My World, was at #5. Caulfield said that before that, it hadn’t happened since October 2004 when rapper Nelly’s simultaneous album release of Sweat and Suit both crashed the top five at #1 and #2.

If you go back to the last artist to do it without releasing two new albums at the same time, you have to look to May 2003, when 50 Cent’s Get Rich or Die Tryin’ was at #5 and his The New Breed CD/DVD debuted at #2.

“Any way you look at it, it’s unusual,” said Caulfield, noting that even with all their success on the charts lately, not even Lady Gaga or Taylor Swift have notched that achievement. “It helps that you have four Bieber albums to choose from on the charts right now.”

Yelawolf Takes It Home For ‘Pop The Trunk’ Video

Shady Records rapper talks to ‘RapFix Live’ on Thursday (March 10).
By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway

Yelawolf

Most young artists dream about life on the road, touring and rubbing shoulders with stars backstage. But for Yelawolf, that was an existence he experienced early in his life.

His mother, who he describes as “super rock and roll,” dated a stage designer, and soon her son found himself meeting Ted Nugent, REO Speedwagon and Randy Travis, among others. “I definitely saw pieces of this life early,” Yela told “RapFix Live” on Thursday (March 10).

That authenticity is what still powers the upstart Alabama rapper. His video for “Pop the Trunk” personifies his gritty appeal. He recruited his actual parents and hometown friends to star in the clip.

“We took a camera to Gadsden, my hometown, and we shot this video with no script,” he explained. “I went to the locations that I was talking about and I got the people that I was talking about to play themselves.”

Recently, Yelawolf aligned his talents with Eminem, inking a deal to join his Shady Records. The move bolstered the label’s roster, as he was also joined by underground supergroup Slaughterhouse. The move re-ignites the collective that’s also home to 50 Cent and D-12.

“It’s a huge deal being able to have a mentor in someone who’s done this for so long and been through so much,” Yelawolf said of joining the team. “And also artistically, just pushing me to be better. Being around them dudes will make you better naturally. So, we’re excited, man.”

Justin Bieber Asks Fans To Donate To Charity For His 17th Birthday

‘I really want my birthday to be all about helping others,’ teen star shared on Charity: Water’s website.

Ever wonder what you might get Justin Bieber for his 17th birthday? Well, the pop star has the answer. In honor of his big day, he’s working with the nonprofit Charity: Water, requesting that his fans donate money to the cause that brings clean water to developing nations.

“I have had an incredible year and it is all due to the fans helping me live my dream. I’m turning 17 years old on Tuesday [March 1] and have so much to be grateful for!” Bieber wrote on the charity’s website. “So this year, I really want my birthday to be all about helping others. Instead of asking for gifts, I’m asking friends, family and fans to consider donating $17 for my 17th birthday to help make a change,” he continued. “One hundred percent of all donations go directly to building clean water projects in developing countries with Charity: Water, and we’ll be able to see photos and GPS of the projects we helped build!”

The teen star then gave his fans some facts about why they should get involved. “Together, we’ve made a big difference for many causes. Did you know that about 4,500 kids die each day from waterborne disease?” he shared. “By building clean water projects for villages that need them, we can prevent this! I want to make my birthday matter this year — let’s make it so more kids can grow up to have a 17th birthday like me. Join me to make a change.

“I’m really so grateful for my family, friends and fans — and I believe we can do something big to help bring clean water to people in need,” he added. “Even if you don’t have $17 to give, I just ask you to go out in your community and try and make a positive difference. Even the smallest act of kindness can go a long way. Thanks and God Bless! #makeachange.”

As it turns out, his call has already been answered by his fans. Charity: Water tweeted, ” Thanks to all you Beliebers, we hit $7 million raised on mycharity: water today! #makeachange.”

Justin Bieber Causes Fan Frenzy In Liverpool, England

Police confirm to MTV News that fans are gathered outside the star’s hotel.

Justin Bieber is in Liverpool, England, on Thursday (March 10) for his world tour, and his fans are very happy about it, which might explain why they’ve gathered in an abundance outside his hotel room.

A rep for the Merseyside Police department confirmed to MTV News that there are “large number of fans” outside Bieber’s hotel, though she “wouldn’t say it’s a riot situation, yet.” Funny enough, this is all going down at the Hard Days Night Hotel, named after the movie that chronicled the Beatles’ encounters with mobs of fans.

“Merseyside Police has been called to North John Street in Liverpool City Centre to ensure control of a crowd that has gathered outside the Hard Days Night Hotel. North John Street has been closed to traffic and police would urge the public to avoid the area if possible,” a statement sent to MTV News reads. “Officers are working with the management of the hotel and with Justin Bieber’s security team to ensure his safety, the safety of other guests and of the crowd.”

According to TMZ, in order to keep the peace, Bieber’s camp is following police orders. And though the gossip site said arrests could be made if anyone in his camp tried to elicit further response from the fans by going on the balcony, the police said, “Merseyside Police has at no time threatened to arrest Justin Bieber or members of his management team.”

Bieber himself was the first to expose the craziness online when he posted a photo of his fans, gathered in droves outside his hotel. “This is crazy. There are like thousands of people out there. love everybody but gonna try and get some sleep. please dont scream. Lol,” he tweeted and later reiterated, “THIS IS CRAZY!”

This is hardly the first time Bieber has had his fans in a frenzy. He caused quit a stir during a trip to the mall in Kitchener, Ontario, on Boxing Day in December. Prior to that he had to shut down an appearance at a Long Island area mall in late 2009, followed by a canceled in-store signing in Paris in February 2010. He caused Bieber Fever in Australia and New Zealand last April and had fans all worked up in September, when he stopped by an Edmonton, Alberta, Hooters for some grub.

Usher To Donate Gadhafi Money To Charity

‘I will be donating all of my personal proceeds…to various human rights organizations,’ singer says of concert linked to Libyan dictator.

R&B superstar Usher announced Friday (March 4) that he was donating to various charities proceeds from appearing at a private event at St. Barts linked to Libyan dictator Moammar Gadhafi, according to a statement made to the Associated Press.

The Grammy award winner’s renouncement comes after similar announcements from singers Mariah Carey, Nelly Furtado, and Beyoncé, all of whom were revealed to have performed at private concerts linked to the Middle Eastern leader, who has faced open revolt and major political uprisings since February.

“I am sincerely troubled to learn about the circumstances surrounding the Nikki Beach St. Bart’s event that took place on New Year’s Eve 2009,” Usher said of the concert, at which he appeared alongside Beyoncé but did not perform. “I will be donating all of my personal proceeds from that event to various human rights organizations.”

Usher has already begun the process, having made a donation to Amnesty International, the AP reports. The exact size of the donation is not known.

The New Year’s Eve gig was reportedly for Moammar’s fourth son Muastassim, who an unnamed music industry source told MTV News has a history of throwing lavish parties “jammed” with supermodels.

Beyoncé, who sang at the event, donated all proceeds from her performance to the Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund, established in the wake of the Haitian earthquake.

“All monies paid to Beyoncé for her performance at a private party at Nikki Beach St. Barts on New Year’s Eve 2009, including the commissions paid to her booking agency, were donated to the earthquake relief efforts for Haiti over a year ago,” the “Halo” singer’s publicist said in a statement to The Huffington Post. “Once it became known that the third-party promoter was linked to the Qaddafi family, the decision was made to put that payment to a good cause.”

Singer Nelly Furtado tweeted February 28 that she plans to make similar amends.

“In 2007, I received 1million$ from the Gadhafi clan to perform a 45 min. show for guests at a hotel in Italy,” she tweeted. “I am going to donate the $.”

The leader of Libya since a successful military coup in 1969, Gadhafi has reportedly lost control of much of his country as a result of widespread uprisings. The United Nations voted unanimously to refer the dictator to the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity.

Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Fashions Decoded

Gaga’s inner circle reveals the secrets behind the looks in the video.

While its visuals were no doubt memorable for fans of the “Born This Way” video, Lady Gaga’s funky fashions have also caught the eye of fashionistas everywhere. The video’s creative director, Laurieann Gibson, credits Gaga’s stylist, Nicola Formichetti, for embracing eye-catching couture for the Nick Knight-directed clip.

“When we found Nicola Formichetti — we found him when we were doing Much Music — before that we were just basically hustling and she was making a lot of the costumes, and we were grinding and America Apparel was our best friend,” Gibson recalled. “And then we found Nicola and he just got it. So when we’re on set, the Haus is such a collaboration, and Nicola is inspired and loves the passion of the dance. He is fashion, and him and Gaga together are magic. To see them push and pull, it’s just a real process. It’s like the Factory. It’s very Warhol how we operate.”

Formichetti blogged about the video’s expansive fashion credits. In the opening sequence of the video, the star wears a head accessory by Alexis Bittar, a diamond neckpiece by Erickson Beamon with earrings by Pamela Love, and a stained-glass dress by Petra Storrs. Gaga also wears finger rings by Erickson Beamon and the technical chiffon was designed by Thierry Mugler.

During the birthing scene, co-star Raquel Zimmermann wears a bodysuit by Atsuko Kudo and a neckpiece by the Baroness. Gaga wears shoes by Natacha Marro. In the following scene, Zimmerman wears boots by Kobi Levi. And for Gaga’s floating head scene, she wears Kudo and Levi, as well.

During the evil-Gaga gun scene, the singer dons knife shoes by Mugler, a dress by Sorcha O’ Raghallaigh and gloves by Portolano.

When the song finally kicks in, Gaga wears skimpy lingerie that includes a bra by OMD, underwear by NYC Sex Trash by Stephanie Paterek, gloves by LaCrasia and customized half-sole shoes by Capezio. She completes the look with a special “BTW” jacket by TomTom.

For the “Born This Way” skeleton scene, both she and her skeleton lover, Rico, wear tuxedos by Mugler. For the orgy, the slime is courtesy of Bart Hess. For her Michael Jackson impression in the alley, Gaga wears a shirt and pants by Haus of Gaga, shoes by Natacha Marro, a Billykirk belt and LaCrasia gloves. As the video closes out, the unicorn horn is courtesy of Jennifer Behr.

Lady Gaga Cover Artist Maria Aragon Is A ‘Born Superstar,’ Fan Says

Jyll Saskin dishes to MTV News about Gaga’s Toronto show set with the YouTube sensation.
By Jocelyn Vena

On Thursday night, Mother Monster treated one of her littlest monsters to the ultimate experience by bringing her up onstage during her Toronto tour stop.

Lady Gaga sat 10-year-old Maria Aragon on her lap before they both began playing piano and singing “Born This Way.” It was a moment that brought not only Gaga to tears, but fans in the audience too. One fan, Jyll Saskin, told MTV News that the moment was “really sweet.”

“Maria came out looking all adorable with her fedora hat and a [stuffed] monkey. It was really cute,” Saskin recalled. “So Gaga sat at the piano, pulled Maria onto her lap, and then did a beautiful, soulful rendition of ‘Born This Way’ together, trading off verses. Maria played the piano, while Gaga played a bit with her right hand as well. Gaga was very, very into the performance, closing her eyes and arching back a lot and definitely getting lost in the song. It was outstanding.”

Gaga became visibly teary-eyed during the performance, and Saskin said she wasn’t the only one. “I had tears in my eyes by the end and Gaga did, too — her mascara was visibly running down her face. After the song, Maria thanked her family … and then told us all to stay tuned because she’d be back after ‘Bad Romance.’ ”

As promised, Aragon did reemerge onstage. Saskin explained, “I understand that ‘Bad Romance’ is typically the finale, but Gaga came back to do ‘Born This Way’ again, similar to her Grammy performance, organ and everything. When she was at the organ part, Maria came back out and then they sang and danced the last bit together. At the end, when Gaga and the group of dancers are all together doing the ‘paws-up’ thing, Maria did the choreography with them. When the song was over, Gaga and Maria hugged. It was really special. I think everyone in the audience was head over heels in love with Maria by that point, but also 100 percent jealous.”

Sure, fans may have envied Maria’s spot onstage, but she had the full support of the little monsters in the audience, according to Saskin. “The crowd definitely loved the whole Maria bit. There were massive cheers when she came out, massive cheers when she spoke, and while she was singing ‘Born This Way’ at the piano with Gaga, it was so quiet in the audience; it was like everyone was in a trance. It was really magical.

“Maria is a born superstar — she spoke so eloquently and didn’t seem nervous at all. I mean, she’s sitting on freaking Lady Gaga’s lap at the Air Canada Center, 24,000 some-odd people, and she didn’t skip a beat.”

While Maria’s performance stood out as a highlight, Saskin also was moved during another part of the night, when the pop star showed off some acrobatic moves. ” ‘You and I,’ I think it was my favorite of the night. Gaga was in her studded bra and underwear, and she played piano and belted it out like a pro. … So we had Gaga, playing piano and singing, right heel on the piano, left heel balanced against a freaking guitar string. It was epic, and the song was amazing.”

What do you think of Gaga and Maria’s version of “Born This Way”? Tell us in the comments!

Beyonce Working With Kanye West Producer S1

‘Power’ producer tweets he’s ‘finishing up some monsters’ after week in the studio with B.
By James Montgomery

Beyoncé’s already taken inspiration from the likes of Michael Jackson and Lauryn Hill, hit the studio with a list of producers that includes Ne-Yo, Sean Garrett and Jim Jonsin, and now, she’s hoping to capture the surge of Kanye West’s “Power.”

B — who’s already hard at work on the follow-up to her massive I Am … Sasha Fierce album — just wrapped a week in the studio with producer S1, the man who co-produced “Power” and has logged time with the likes of Ghostface Killah and Erykah Badu.

S1 broke the news via his Twitter account and also posted a photo of himself and B over on his official site. And from the sound of things, the sessions, which took place in New York City, were definitely eventful.

“A couple of meetings then back in the lab with Beyonce today,” he wrote in one tweet. “Excited to see what we’re gonna create today after last night’s session.

“Not going to bed anytime soon. Beyonce got us in here working and I’m loving every bit of it,” he wrote in another post. “Finishing up some monsters … everything is sounding really great and big!”

There’s still not much information about Beyoncé’s new album, though in an interview with “Entertainment Tonight” last year, she said that, this time out, she’s aiming to “make [her] own genre of music.” In a follow-up interview with MTV News, she clarified that statement, explaining that she’s “mixing every type of genre that I love” on the new album, and added, “I’m not in a box. It’s not R&B. It’s not typically pop. It’s not rock. It’s just everything I love all mixed together in my own little gumbo of music.”

What do you think S1′s work with Beyoncé will sound like? Tell us in the comments!

Dave Matthews Band Announce Festival Details

Band will headline four three-day festivals this summer, beginning in Atlantic City in June.
By Aly Semigran

For many, the Dave Matthews Band is summer. So, after a 20-year kinship with the band on the road, what exactly would a DMB-less summer look like for devoted fans? Lucky for “Dave heads,” they’ll no longer have to ponder that prospect.

In 2010 the band announced they would be taking a hiatus from touring in 2011, but in the months that followed, an announcement was made that the multifaceted group — which includes Dave Matthews, Carter Beauford, Stefan Lessard and Boyd Tinsley, as well as Rashawn Ross, Tim Reynolds and Jeff Coffin (who stepped in after the death of founding member LeRoi Moore) — would be headlining a four-stop, multi-act Caravan festival from June to September.

On February 22, members of DMB’s fan club, the Warehouse, received a cryptic “save the date” e-mail informing them that from June 24 to June 26 Dave and co. would be in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic region and from July 8 to July 10 they’d be in the Midwest. The e-mail also alerted fans that the band would bring the tour out in August and September, but no locations or dates have been listed.

Now fans can start making some concrete plans, as details for the first part of the festival have officially been announced. From June 24 to June 26, the Dave Matthews Band will headline three shows at Bader Field in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

In addition to closing sets from the band each evening, as well as an acoustic set featuring Matthews and Reynolds, concertgoers will see scheduled performers David Gray, Ray LaMontagne, the Flaming Lips, O.A.R., Damian Marley, Bassnectar, Dr. Dog, Amos Lee, Thievery Corporation, Michael Franti and Spearhead, Warren Haynes Band, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Guster, Lotus, Rebelution, Fitz and the Tantrums, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Lisa Hannigan, Punch Brothers, From Good Homes, Delta Spirit, Big Gigantic, Alberta Cross, Mariachi El Bronx, TR3, Vusi Mahlasela, the Budos Band and Bobby Long.

Tickets, which will only be available as three-day passes, go on sale to the general public Friday, March 25, at 10 a.m. However, members of the Warehouse will get the option of making ticket requests from Monday, March 14, to Monday, March 21, and Citi Card members will have access to pre-sale tickets on Monday, March 21.

Will you be attending the Dave Matthews Band’s Caravan festival this summer? Tell us in the comments!

Chris Brown Says He’s In A ‘Positive Place’

F.A.M.E. singer tells Page Six Magazine, ‘You can’t walk around mad.’
By Terri Schwartz

Chris Brown opened up about his infamous assault on ex-girlfriend Rihanna, and he said he’s ready to move past it.

“People are always gonna talk, but I’m in a positive place. I consider myself a grown-ass man,” he told Page Six Magazine (in Thursday’s New York Post).

Brown, 21, has been dealing with the fallout since his February 2009 attack on Rihanna, but his new album, F.A.M.E. (which stands for “Forgiving All My Enemies”), has been well-received, showing that the public might be ready to forgive him and accept him as an artist.

During the interview, Brown was frank about admitting he was in the wrong for the “mishap,” but said he’s ready to stop apologizing.

“At the end of the day, if I walk around apologizing to everybody, I’m gonna look like a damn fool,” he said.

Brown admitted that he understood why some of his former friends walked away from him after the incident — “You can’t blame people for how they want to be portrayed or if they don’t want to be associated with somebody who had a particular mishap” — and he said he appreciated the “handful” of people who did stick by him.

At the heart of that support group were his fans, whom he thanks in the interview. Brown said he is ready to move beyond this point in his life and look into the future.

“The last two years, everybody dissed me,” Brown said. “But my fans were so dedicated. The way I look at it is, you can’t walk around mad, because then you just prove everybody right that you’re an angry person.”

Are you a fan of Chris Brown? Sound off in the comments below!

Foo Fighters Reveal Key Scene In New ‘Rope’ Video

New clip premieres Thursday on MTV, with exclusive band Q&A to follow on MTV and MTV.com.
By James Montgomery

Photo: RCA

With the debut of the Foo Fighters’ “Rope” video just a day away — Thursday at 7:54 p.m. ET/PT on MTV, just in case you weren’t paying attention — the band have already given fans a sneak peek and let it be known that the overall feel of the clip is “claustrophobic,” drawing influence from the band’s cramped rehearsal space and the overall feel of their upcoming album, Wasting Light.

But those aren’t the only bits of information the band let slip: Director and Foo frontman Dave Grohl is willing to pull the curtain back on the “Rope” video’s key scene … one that only further illustrates that creeping, claustrophobic feel.

“We shot the video … in a big soundstage in Los Angeles. And we had to build this cube out of fabric and wood for the band to play within, and it’s lit from outside,” he explained. “And then, there’s a part in the video where it’s actually revealed that we’re inside this weird white cube. At first it just seems like we’re in this glowing white room from within, and then towards the end, the big reveal is we’re in this room, which is within a massive room.”

And though Grohl was quick to downplay his role as director on “Rope,” his bandmates were equally quick to sing his praises, not so much as a keen visionary, but as a guy who knows the importance of a good dressing room. And that’s pretty key, if you think about it.

“You know what was cool about that video? We all had our own dressing rooms,” drummer Taylor Hawkins laughed. “I was like, ‘I can get used to this!’ ”

“The next [video], I think it’s going to be, like, ‘The Foo Fighters’ Dressing Room’ and then ‘Taylor Hawkins’ Dressing Room,’ ” Grohl shot back. “I think that’s going to happen.”

The Foo Fighters’ “Rope” video premieres live at 7:54 p.m. ET/PT on Thursday on MTV and MTV.com, followed by an exclusive Q&A session from one lucky Foo fan’s house to be live-streamed on MTV.com. Fans can submit questions via Twitter (@MTVNews using hashtag #askfoos).

Lady Gaga’s ‘Government Hooker’ Makes Fashion-Show Debut

Dance track from Born This Way has a thumping beat and operatic vocals.

Lady Gaga managed to look like a seasoned pro when she hit the catwalk for Mugler’s Paris Women’s Fashion Week show, where she made her debut as a model. The singer donned two looks, one all-black and the other white, for her rousing appearance.

While her runway appearance was certainly headline-making, it was the fact that Gaga previewed part of a Born This Way song for the fashionistas that was even more noteworthy. The dance track, “Government Hooker,” was the latest song Gaga has teased fans with from her May release.

It featured a thumping beat, operatic vocals and a trance-y vibe. On it, she sings sexy lines like, “I can be anything/ I’ll be your everything/ Just touch me, baby.” The massive club track features Gaga’s full voice sharing requests like, “Put your hands on me.” On the track about desire, she sings, “I’m gonna drink my tears tonight/ I’m gonna drink my tears and cry/ ‘Cause I know you love me, baby.” During the show, she also played “Scheiße” and “Born This Way” in addition to the dark new track.

It might be the first time she graced a catwalk, but it’s not the first time she’s previewed new tracks during a fashion show. “Scheiße” was previewed during Mugler’s men’s show in January, and she previously debuted “Bad Romance” in 2009 during an Alexander McQueen show.

Gaga has called “Government Hooker” “one of my favorites” and said it “has more of a hip-hop beat.”

“We double-timed the beat. It’s a super fast, really hard record, and the lyrics are really filthy,” she added. “It’s also empowering, but more in the direction of sexual female empowerment.”

What do you think of Lady Gaga’s new music? Let us know in the comments!

Usher’s club-rattling jam “OMG” may “kill it every night” according to tourmate Miguel, but when the Atlanta crooner hit Madison Square Garden earlier this week, he was almost taken out by a clumsy fan.

When the singer touched down in New York on Monday, he indulged a super amped fan’s fantasy by pulling her onstage for an intimate flirty serenade of “Trading Places.” As Usher and the concertgoer got cozy on a recliner, she swiveled around to face the crooner — knocking him squarely in his mug with her foot. She began apologizing profusely as Usher briefly paused to collect himself. But the superstar took the strike in stride, quipping, “We play rough in the bed. We kick each other in the face and all type of good stuff.”

Although Usher brushed off the blow, the moment did make an impression on him.

“In all my years, this is one of the most interesting experiences. I got a kick out of it!” he told Us Weekly. The singer assured fans that the knock wasn’t that bad. “It looked worse than it actually was. My audience and I got a good laugh.”

As for the fan, the “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love” star maintained everything is all good on that front too. “Wherever you are baby, don’t feel bad,” Usher said. “No hard feelings.”

As Miguel has noted, Usher isn’t one dwell on drama, whether it’s cranking out another hit album or weathering an unexpected hit from a fan.

“He’s such a tremendous example of perseverance and determination,” Miguel recently told MTV News. “I was there throughout this album, so I’ve seen the adversity that he’s had to overcome perception-wise.”

What do you think of Usher’s response to getting knocked in the head by a fan? Tell us in the comments!

Extreme Musicians Tell Child Where Babies Come From

You can spit raw pig organs out into the crowd, play blast beats at deafening volume or wear enough corpse paint to clog your pores until next Halloween, but the real test of whether a musician has balls of steel can b tested most effectively by an eight year old kid asking them where babies [...]

Gucci Mane’s ‘I Don’t Love Her’ Video Debuts Thursday On ‘RapFix Live’

The Return of Mr. Zone 6 video also features Webbie and Rocko.

Gucci Mane has a strange way of showing affection.

The Burrrprint rapper, along with Rocko and Webbie, trade tales of lust on “I Don’t Love Her,” while showering women with attention at the club.

The video, directed by Mr. Boomtown, is set to premiere on MTV News’ “RapFix Live” on Thursday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com. In the clip, the ladies gyrate and fight for the attention of Gucci Mane and company.

“I love things about her, but I don’t love her/ I love the way she treats me, but I don’t love her,” they chant on the hook.

The track is from La Flare’s latest album, the forthcoming The Return of Mr. Zone 6, featuring collaborations with Wale, Master P, Birdman and Waka Flocka Flame, among others.

The project is Gucci Mane’s first since the rapper’s string of odd behavior, from pleading “mental incompetency” after a probation violation to tattooing a lightning-bolted ice cream cone on his face.

After the rapper’s past two thoughtful albums, The State vs. Radric Davis and The Appeal: Georgia’s Most Wanted, this go-round, Gucci Mane is aiming for a return to his roots: the streets.

“This street album is a return to the music that got me buzzin’ in the first place,” Gucci said in a statement about The Return of Mr. Zone 6. “It didn’t really make sense to not have some of the people who’ve been responsible for some of my best street records behind me.”

Are you excited for new music from Gucci Mane? Let us know in the comments!

Don’t miss “RapFix Live” on Thursday at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com for the premiere of Gucci Mane’s “I Don’t Love Her” video.

Leighton Meester Channels Ke$ha On New Song

The ‘Gossip Girl’ star gets her party on with ‘Front Cut,’ a new track that just hit the Internet.
By Jocelyn Vena

For a while there it seemed like Leighton Meester was only going to be “Country Strong,” but now she’s again embracing her dance-club music roots on a new track. On Tuesday, a new Meester tune titled “Front Cut” hit the Web.

The “Gossip Girl” star’s track, a certain club banger that could easily be confused with any song in Ke$ha’s dance-heavy discography, features the writing, production and vocal talents of Clinton Sparks.

“I’m too fly to be all up in this line, boy/ I should get a front cut/ I should get a front cut,” Meester proclaims in the opening lines of the song — which is all about getting key access to a slamming party — before some killer keyboards and heavy beats kick in. She goes on to rap/sing, “You see me coming through/ Not just me, my girlfriends too/ You know what we came to do/ That’s why we in front of you.”

Meester really displays her swagga on the song’s bridge, when she goes on to sing, “Don’t tell me I gotta wait in the line/ I said f— the front door, I should go in through the side/ Why don’t you/ Lift up that rope to let through/ All these girls in my crew / Give me a drink or a few/ I mean a bottle or two/ We’ve been out here too damn long / And I hear Clint Sparks playin’ my song/ Got my diamond and my Louboutins on/ Ya better hurry up or I’ll be gone/ Don’t tell me I gotta wait in no line/ ‘Cause there’s plenty of other clubs that want me inside.”

With no official release date for the track or any definite plans for an album release, it seems that for now Meester fans will have to just enjoy the song online. The singer/actress’ pop-star career has been long-simmering, to say the least. She was expected to drop an album in 2010, but that never happened.

In 2009, she appeared on Cobra Starship’s “Good Girls Go Bad,” then she hooked up with Robin Thicke on the song “Somebody to Love.”

So what do you think of Meester’s new club banger? Share your opinions in the comments.

‘Dark Knight Rises’ Star Gary Oldman Discusses Bruce Wayne’s Arc

‘I know the story and it’s a great story,’ Oldman says of the final film in the ‘Batman’ trilogy.
By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Christopher Nolan has been adamant that “The Dark Knight Rises” will be his final film in the “Batman” franchise. To that end, he’s promised to bring the trilogy to a definitive close and give “a conclusion to our story,” as the director told us last month.

But what exactly that story is and how it will conclude remain unknown. Actor Gary Oldman, out promoting “Red Riding Hood,” gave MTV News some hints, noting a sort of storytelling symmetry that will tie the third film back to the first and yet take the entire franchise to a new level.

“The scope of it and also the way he brings it back to ‘Batman Begins,’ and really what Bruce Wayne discovers about himself, what he learns about himself at the end of this one [will top off the trilogy],” Oldman teased about the upcoming flick.

Exactly what self-knowledge Christian Bale’s Caped Crusader acquires remains to be seen. The production isn’t set to kick off until the spring, in advance of a July 2012 release date.

While Oldman hasn’t seen the script, Nolan apparently told him he’s put together a “good role” for the actor in the form of Gotham City Police Department hotshot Jim Gordon. “I know the story and it’s a great story,” Oldman said. “You look at ‘The Dark Knight’ and you go, ‘How’s he going to top it?’ But I think he has.”

In addition to reuniting with familiar “Batman” castmates, Oldman’s return to the franchise will mark another collaboration with Tom Hardy, who joins “Dark Knight Rises” as the villain Bane.

“I worked with Tom on ['Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy'], I’m going off to do a couple days with him on ['The Wettest County in the World'] and then we work together on ‘Batman,’ ” Oldman said. “And then we get married — 2011 is the year of Gary and Tom.”

Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dark Knight Rises.”

Justin Bieber Vintage Video: His First Meeting With Usher

Justin Timberlake also wanted to sign Bieber, ‘Never Say Never’ star said in 2009.
By Jocelyn Vena

Just as the world was learning who Justin Bieber was, MTV News caught up with the shaggy-haired singer in September 2009. He was gearing up to release his debut album, My World, and plotting his pop-world domination. In the year and a half since that interview, Bieber has done the nearly impossible, launching himself into the pop mega-sphere.

In the chat, Bieber recalled how he and his manager, Scooter Braun, met and eventually got big names interested in signing the teen.

“My manager found me on YouTube. He flew me out to Atlanta for the first time — I’d never actually been on a plane before. He flew me to Atlanta where i was going to the studio to meet some people,” he recalled.

“And Usher happened to roll up in his Range Rover. I ran up to him, and I was like, ‘Usher, I love your songs. Want me to sing you one?’ The politest possible way he could say no, he did. … I took the hint. I didn’t get to sing for him: He had to run into a studio session.”

But later, Usher was beckoning the teen back to the ATL. “He actually watched my videos — after my manager got to talking to him — and was like, ‘I should have let this kid sing,’ and flew me back to Atlanta where I got to sing for him in a proper setting. A week later, I had a meeting with Justin Timberlake, who also wanted to sign me, so they both kind of wanted me.”

As the story goes, Bieber went with Usher, and the two never looked back.

“As far as Usher being my mentor, he’s definitely given me words of wisdom. I hear it from everybody, but definitely to hear it from Usher is great, just to stay humble and grounded is very important,” he explained.

“There’s a lot of people, especially young stars, that have gone down the wrong path, and I definitely plan to stay humble and stay grounded and keep my family first, because that stuff really is important in life.”

On Friday, Justin Bieber’s 3-D documentary, “Never Say Never,” opens. The film takes a look at how the teen star worked to hit it big. MTV News has been chatting with him along the way, from the time he first burst on the scene in 2009 until now, as he embarks on a huge 2011 that will include a tour and more new music.

‘Your support is what got me through this,’ says star, who recently left treatment for undisclosed personal issues.
By Jocelyn Vena

Looking happy and healthy, Demi Lovato released a video message on Monday (March 7) thanking fans for standing by her while she sought out treatment for personal issues.

“Hey guys, it’s me, Demi,” she said in the video posted on Cambio.com. “I wanted to send you guys a message ’cause I know that you’ve seen me out and about and I wanted to let you know that I am back and home. Welcome to my home. But I wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for the support that you’ve given me along the way.”

Lovato, who left treatment at the end of January, went on to say that it was the support of her fans that helped her resolve her issues. “I read [all of it] and your support is what got me through this. So I couldn’t be more thankful for everything you guys sent me. The journey that I’ve been on has been very, very difficult over the past few months,” she explained, never specifically revealing why she had gone into treatment. “I was dealing with issues that I know not only girls just my age but girls of all ages are dealing with. I hope to one day raise awareness of everything, so that I can help people too, just like you guys helped me through this rough time.

“I can’t tell you how much light you brought into my life in probably the darkest time of my life,” she continued. “Without you guys I wouldn’t be here today.”

Lovato said that she has some big work announcements coming soon. “I wanted to let you guys know that I’m excited to get back to work. I can’t wait to tell you guys what the future holds,” she said. “I can’t wait to see you in person. I love you all and I couldn’t have done this without you.”

MTV’s Musical March Madness Preview: Linkin Park Promise Total Dominance

Our 2011 tournament begins on March 14, but early favorites Linkin Park already proclaim, ‘We’re winners. That’s our motto.’
By James Montgomery

Last year, whether it was due to oversight by the selection committee or just plain bias, Linkin Park did not make the field of 65 bands that competed in MTV’s inaugural Musical March Madness tournament.

In the end, after weeks of fiercely contested matchups, more than 2 million votes and precisely one accusation of cheating, it was Coheed and Cambria that ended up taking home the championship, shocking the world and inspiring this hilarious photograph in the process.

And while we’re not going to discount the valiant efforts of Coheed and their fervent fanbase — after all, winners were determined by fan voting — we couldn’t help but wonder if things would’ve turned out differently had Linkin Park made the tournament in the first place. They are, after all, one of the biggest rock acts on the planet, commanding a vast (and loyal) army of fans that most certainly would’ve carried them to the Final Four … at least.

So this year, we’re determined to put that claim to the test. Because while we’ll reveal our full 2011 MTV Musical March Madness bracket next Monday (March 14), we’re going to let it slip right now that not only did Linkin Park make the field this year, they’ll enter the 2011 tournament at a very high seed. This is what happens when you release a jaw-dropping, envelope-pushing album, A Thousand Suns, and then convince the entire world to listen.

So, do Linkin Park have what it takes to claim the 2011 MMM Championship? We decided to ask them, and as it turns out, they’ve already got their game plan in place.

“Well, I think what we’re going to have to do is, we’re going to have to be smart about our offense, we’re going to have to have a tough defense,” Chester Bennington said. “We’re going to put a lot of pressure on the other bands, to really perform at their best. Because, you know, our motto is ‘Go hard all the time.’ Whether we win or lose, we’re winners. That’s our motto.”

That’s actually two mottos, but who’s counting. And though they’re already planning on bringing the pressure — Brad Delson is a master of the full-court press — Linkin Park are focused on one thing, and one thing only: hoisting the hardware on April 5.

“We want to win,” Mike Shinoda smiled.

“We want to win,” Bennington added. “So basically, we’ll let these guys come in and play hard, but we’re going to want to kick their asses. And that’s just how it goes.”

MTV’s 2011 Musical March Madness Tournament begins on Monday, March 14, when we reveal the full field of 65 bands that will battle for the championship. Winners are determined by fan votes, so if your favorite act made the cut, it’ll be up to you to guide them to glory. You can rally the troops on Twitter using the hashtag #MMM … but get ready, it’s gonna be a war.

I Am the Dance Commander + I Commander You to Dance: The Remix Album hits stores March 22.
By Jocelyn Vena

Ke$ha has made a name for herself as a party girl who makes party songs. But maybe you find the choice tracks on her debut, Animal, and the follow-up, Cannibal, not quite up to snuff for your dance-floor needs. And maybe that’s why the singer has decided to release her first ever remix album, I Am the Dance Commander + I Command You to Dance: The Remix Album, on March 22.

For the album, Ke$ha hooked up with a number of dance DJs and producers, as well as a few notable guests. The track listing includes: “Blow” (Cirkut Remix), “The Sleazy Remix” (which includes an appearance by Andre 3000), “Tik Tok Untold Remix,” “F— Him He’s a DJ” (live version), “Animal Switch Remix,” “Your Love Is My Drug” Dave Audé club remix, “We R Who We R” Fred Falke club remix, “Take It Off” Billboard remix, “Tik Tok” Chuck Buckett’s Veruca Salt remix and her track with 3OH!3, “Blah Blah Blah” DJ Skeet Skeet radio remix.

In addition to the new music, Ke$ha is also set to release the music video for her latest single, “Blow.” She tweeted about filming it in late January. On Tuesday, the singer shared that she saw some footage from the video, writing, “Just saw the final cut of my new video for BLOW all I can say is HOT DAMN.”

Currently, Ke$ha is on the road for her Get $leazy Tour, which she kicked off last week in Portland, Oregon. She’s set to wrap up her tour in Las Vegas on May 7.

Lady Gaga Makes Runway Debut At Mugler Fashion Show

Singer tries her hand at modeling in Paris, also previewing the song ‘Government Hooker.’

Before Wednesday’s (March 2) Mugler fashion show in Paris even kicked off, fans were treated to some behind-the-scenes action as models and stylists scrambled to finalize the looks for Nicola Formichetti’s debut women’s-wear collection for the line. Perhaps the most famous model backstage? That would be Lady Gaga.

Mugler was the perfect line for Gaga’s catwalk debut — not just because creative director Formichetti is her stylist, but also because its gothy, latexy and glamorous aesthetic perfectly fits Gaga’s over-the-top style.

When the show did eventually kick off, Paris’ most fashionable, including Vogue editor Anna Wintour, filled the seats to see what Formichetti had up his sleeve. This season, the brand showed models styled with sleek ponytails and variations on the cat eye. The clothes had lots of leather, sheer fabrics and plastic-like garments that were equally futuristic and sophisticated, fitting perfectly to the model’s bodies. Shoulders were an emphasis of the ensembles, while pencil skirts and wide-legged pants also ruled. Blacks, Army greens and dark neutrals flooded the line, which also included wintery whites, leopard prints and cobalt blues.

Photos: Lady Gaga’s walk down the Paris runway.

Gaga hit the stage early in the show in her Mugler finest. For her initial appearance, she wore a version of a beret, two flowing pigtails, a dazzling diamond necklace, a sheer black top with a bra, a leather skirt and towering boots. Gaga posed and smoked a cigarette onstage as models, including Zombie Boy, tried to act like the superstar wasn’t onstage with them. As she walked off, cheers could be heard from the audience.

Gaga re-emerged for the close of the show in a flowing, white skirt with white bustier and super-high platforms. She completed the look with a white hat and sheer scarf. (Always self-aware, Gaga was heard telling handlers backstage before she hit the runway, “If I vomit on the stage, it would be good press.” She also was spotted practicing her fiercest strut.)

As “Born This Way” played out, the models took their final walks. Gaga hugged Formichetti as the designer came out for his bow. Backstage, as the live-stream cameras still rolled, Gaga took photos and got flowers.

In addition to playing “BTW” and “Scheiße,” Gaga debuted “Government Hooker,” a trance-y dance track about all things sexy in which she recites lines like “Put your hands on me.”
