Lady Gaga Fans Expecting ‘Born This Way’ Video To Be ‘Fabulous’

‘She outdoes herself each time,’ one Gaga fan tells MTV News.

Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” music video premieres on Monday (February 28), and the star’s dedicated legion of Little Monsters cannot wait to see what their Mother Monster has up her sleeve in the Nick Knight-directed music video.

When MTV News spoke to a small grouping of Gaga’s loyal fans, they revealed what they think might make the final cut of the video, which was a collaboration between Knight, the singer’s Haus of Gaga creative team and choreographer Laurieann Gibson.

A fan named Emily guessed that the clip might seek some inspiration from Gaga’s stark, egg-y Grammy Awards spectacle earlier this month. “Maybe kind of like her Grammy performance,” she pondered. “I don’t know. I have no idea. You never know what the hell she’s gonna come up with.”

“She outdoes herself each time and each time she uses a different director,” Leslie Perkins said. “And each time is beyond the last one. I’m expecting nothing less than fabulous.”

Cayley couldn’t quite put her finger on what the video might look like. She explained, “I don’t know! I can only imagine!”

Mon Cherie and her pal, Pam Kitten, figure that something somewhat shocking will probably come of it all. “There’s not much more of an egg, hon!” Mon Cherie joked. “She comes out of an elephant poop! I don’t know! Nothing shocks me. Lady Gaga — whatever she do is fantastic.”

Some of those same fans recently dished to MTV News about what the song “Born This Way” means to them as Gaga ushers in a new phase of her career. “Do what you want to do!” Mon Cherie previously noted. “I mean, keep it real, keep it safe and keep it legal, but you got to do you, hon.”

Lisa explained that the tune “means no matter what you are, who you are, who you want to be, you just can’t help it, because you were born this way.”

Meanwhile, Gaga revealed during a recent visit to “The Gayle King Show” that she also plans to put out a second “Born This Way” video. The singer said that clip, which will accompany a stripped-down version of the song, “will be released on iTunes.” She added that “a portion of the money raised selling the song [will] go towards an anti-bully charity.”

Beyonce To Star In Clint Eastwood’s ‘A Star Is Born’ Remake

Movie will be directed and produced by the Oscar winner.
By Kara Warner

Beyoncé Knowles is headed back to the big screen and into the familiar territory of playing an aspiring singer-turned-superstar. According to Deadline, Knowles will star in a remake of “A Star Is Born,” to be directed and produced by Oscar winner Clint Eastwood for Warner Bros.

The remake will be the fourth telling of the “A Star Is Born” tale, the most memorable in recent years being the 1976 version with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson as star-crossed lovers of sorts. It is also worth mentioning that the producers of that film, Billy Gerber and Jon Peters, are also attached to this new project. It is said to be a full-on musical with production set to begin sometime in the fall.

Naturally, the plot details are under wraps, but the original story revolves around an aspiring singer who meets and falls in love with a troubled, failing former star who helps get the young ingénue her big break in the business.

No announcements have been made with regard to the male lead, but the report mentioned that major names like Will Smith, Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Hamm have been floated around.

It’s definitely an interesting step for Knowles but not necessarily a surprise, given the fact that the majority of her film roles have been as singers (“Cadillac Records,” “Dreamgirls,” “The Fighting Temptations”). While many thought “Dreamgirls” would bring awards recognition for Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson’s supporting role ended up garnering the most attention. With Oscar fave Eastwood at the helm of this new project, Knowles could be in line for some hardware yet.

Kirk Douglas Steals The Show Presenting Best Supporting Actress Oscar

‘She’s gorgeous! Wow! Where were you when I was making pictures?’ movie icon says to Oscars host Anne Hathaway.
By Jocelyn Vena

Hollywood veteran and icon Kirk Douglas stole the show early on in the 2011 Academy Awards broadcast. Aided by a walking cane, Douglas took the stage at the Kodak Theatre to present the award for Best Supporting Actress.

By the time he handed the Oscar to Melissa Leo, Douglas had flirted with Oscars host Anne Hathaway and managed to have the room in stitches by poking fun at Hugh Jackman and Colin Firth.

“Thank you very much,” he told the applauding audience. “And I want to thank James [Franco]. Thank you. You look much better out of the cave. And I want to thank Miss Hathaway. I thank you. She’s gorgeous! Wow! Where were you when I was making pictures? Jeez!”

His comments about the Hollywood star caused the audience to break out into laughter and Hathaway to send air kisses to Douglas in gratitude. He continued, ” I have something to confess. I love women and I really love beautiful women, and now I’m gonna give you five of them — the nominees for Best Supporting Actress.”

After the names of the nominees were announced — Leo for “The Fighter,” her co-star Amy Adams, Helena Bonham Carter for “The Kings’ Speech,” “True Grit” star Hailee Steinfeld and “Animal Kingdom” actress Jacki Weaver — the camera cut back to Douglas onstage, ready to announce the winner, or so the audience thought.

“Hello … now is the moment, the moment that we are all waiting for,” he teased. “Hugh Jackman is laughing. I don’t know why everybody in Australia thinks I’m funny. Colin Firth is not laughing. He’s British. Now we come to the most important part. This is the moment, if I can get it. You know you’re still laughing. Colin Firth is laughing. You know I will never forget this moment … now we have a winner.”

Douglas finally got around to announcing the winner. When Leo arrived onstage to collect her award, she bowed down on one knee before the movie icon.

Stick with MTV News on Oscar night and beyond for red-carpet fashion coverage, analysis of the winners, plus interviews, photos and more from your favorite Hollywood stars!

Justin Bieber’s Next Album To Capture Justin Timberlake’s Magic

Songwriter Sean Garrett says former ‘NSYNC star’s success inspires Bieber’s new project and also dishes on Beyoncé’s album.
By Mawuse Ziegbe

Justin Bieber may have declined the chance to join Justin Timberlake’s label, but according to a songwriter in the know, the former ‘NSYNC crooner is the inspiration for the teen sensation’s upcoming album.

Songwriter Sean “The Pen “Garrett, who has been working with Bieber on the follow-up to the chart-ruling My World 2.0., spoke with Billboard about the direction for the teen superstar’s forthcoming album, saying the project will feature more grown-up fare.

“What we’re trying to do with Justin is to segue him into young adulthood,” Garrett said of the project, which is also slated to feature production from hitmaker Christopher “Tricky” Stewart. “The one great thing about Justin Bieber is the fact that his fans are going to grow with him. So we want all the fans that started out with him to still be intrigued and excited about him, but we want to also stretch out a little bit and make the fans that are 22-23 years old love Justin as well. When Justin Timberlake went from the last album of *N Sync to his first solo album — I want to say [we're aiming for] that level. That’s the bar for the type of song, that level of ‘Cry Me a River,’ big records.”

Garrett, who has crafted records for stars like Chris Brown and Bieber’s mentor Usher, also said he’s hard at work on Beyoncé’s next project. However, the songwriter didn’t divulge too much information, only revealing that he’s “been working with her extremely hard … she’s my favorite.”

While Garrett said the plan for his next outing is to angle Bieber toward a swiftly maturing audience, Bieber himself has refused to categorize his music, insisting to MTV News in December that he’s just focused on creating quality records.

“Whatever comes out of my mouth is just what you guys are going to hear,” Bieber explained of his hits. “I don’t know, it’s not a specific type of music. Whatever music I write, I wouldn’t say I’m pop or R&B or country or anything: I would just say it’s just good music,”

What do you think Justin Bieber’s new music is going to sound like? Let us know in the comments!

By Jayson Rodriguez

On the East Coast, revenue streams are slowly rising as banks are still cratering and trying to recover from the recession. But out West, money ain’t a thing, as Jermaine Dupri and Jay-Z once rapped.

Forbes has released their list of Hollywood’s 20 Highest Earners of 2010, with Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus among those rubbing elbows with the likes of power players like Oprah Winfrey.

The venerable talk-show host topped the list with a whopping $315 million haul. Winfrey’s earnings were generated for the most part by her multimedia deals, which include a syndication deal for her TV show, a magazine and her soon-to-be-launched network.

“Avatar” creator James Cameron came in second, more than $100 million behind Winfrey, with a tally of $210 million. Director and playwright Tyler Perry ($125 million), blockbuster movie producer Michael Bay ($120 million) and golfer Tiger Woods ($105 million) rounded out the top five.

Beyoncé was the only pop star to break the top 10. The “Single Ladies” superstar landed at #9, sandwiched between George Lucas and Dr. Phil. Mrs. Carter, whose hubby, Jay-Z, was named Hip-Hop’s Cash King by Forbes in August with a tally of $63 million, pulled down $87 million over the past 12 months.

The blond-haired trio of Britney Spears ($64 million), Lady Gaga ($62 million) and Madonna ($58 million) made their mark on the list at numbers 13, 14 and 15, respectively.

Pop tarts Miley Cyrus and Taylor Swift capped the list. The young stars placed at 18 and 19 on the list, with Disney star Cyrus pocketing $48 million, and country singer Swift depositing $45 million into her bank account.

Hollywood’s 20 highest-earning men and women of 2010, according to Forbes:

1. Oprah Winfrey, $315 million
2. James Cameron, $210 million
3. Tyler Perry, $125 million
4. Michael Bay, $120 million
5. Tiger Woods, $105 million
6. Jerry Bruckheimer, $100 million
7. Steven Spielberg, $100 million
8. George Lucas, $95 million
9. Beyoncé, $87 million
10. Dr. Phil, $80 million
11. Simon Cowell, $80 million
12. Jerry Seinfeld, $75 million
13. Britney Spears, $64 million
14. Lady Gaga, $62 million
15. Madonna, $58 million
16. Sandra Bullock, $56 million
17. Ellen DeGeneres, $55 million
18. Miley Cyrus, $48 million
19. Taylor Swift, $45 million
20. Judge Judy Sheindlin, $45 million

Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Muse Added To Grammy Show

Usher, Jaden Smith, B.o.B, Janelle Monae and Lady Antebellum will also perform on February 13.
By Gil Kaufman

While Willow Smith is the one who made music headlines with “Whip My Hair” last year, it’s her brother, “Karate Kid” actor Jaden Smith, who will take the stage at the upcoming 53rd Grammy Awards in a special performance alongside Usher and Justin Bieber, with whom he collaborated on the song “Never Say Never” last summer.

The trio joins a list of new performers added to the show on Thursday (January 20) that will also include another power trifecta made up of B.o.B, Bruno Mars and Janelle Monáe, according to a press release from the Recording Academy announcing the additions to the February 13 telecast from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Also taking the stage next month will be nominees Muse and Lady Antebellum. They will join a roster of previously announced performers that includes Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Arcade Fire, Cee Lo Green and Miranda Lambert. It will be the first time on the Grammy performance stage for Bieber, B.o.B, Lambert, Mars, Monáe, Muse and Smith. Eminem, Green, Gaga, Perry, Usher and Lady Antebellum will be making return visits for the occasion.

While 11-time Grammy winner Eminem leads the pack in nominations this year (with 10 nods), Mars has seven nominations, and Gaga and Lady Antebellum are not far behind with six nods each. B.o.B has notched five, Perry and Green are each up for four, and Arcade Fire and Lambert are vying for three awards. Bieber, Muse, Usher and Monáe are each nominated for two Grammys.

No details of the collaborative performances were released, but the Grammy announcement promised a rare, never-before-seen event for the Mars, B.o.B and Monáe segment.

With the addition of Antebellum, all five Album of the Year nominees (Eminem, Arcade Fire, Gaga, Perry) are now scheduled to perform on the show. Additional performers, presenters and special segments will be announced soon.

Which Grammy performance are you most looking forward to? Talk about it in the comments!

Lady Gaga Previews Born This Way Tracks

Rolling Stone heard four new songs, which seem to draw from the past while still pushing the envelope.
By MTV News Staff Report

Lady Gaga
Photo: Michael Caulfield/ Getty Images

Hours before reviving her long-running Monster Ball Tour in Atlantic City, New Jersey, recently, Lady Gaga gave Rolling Stone magazine a sneak peek at four songs off her upcoming Born This Way album … and from the sound of things, she’s not only pushing the boundaries, she’s borrowing from some of the best in the business.

For example, E Street Band saxophonist Clarence Clemons, who lends his prodigious skronk to a pair of the songs — “Edge of Glory” and “Hair” — or Nine Inch Nails, circa Trent Reznor’s Broken era (on “Hair,” which also apparently draws inspiration from ’80s singer Pat Benatar’s “We Belong” and the inspirational, all-encompassing lyrics of LG’s own “Born This Way”). Another song, “Judas,” which is set to be the second single off Born This Way, is described by Rolling Stone writer Matthew Perpetua as “a classic Lady Gaga pop banger,” with a “thumping, house music breakdown” and a vocal hook “that borrows a bit of Rihanna’s distinctive cadence.”

“Edge” is “a massive power ballad with heavy club beats” that also contains “an element of cheesiness” and an “Eighties stadium rock vibe.” “Scheiée” — a remix of which Gaga actually debuted last month at a fashion show in Paris — contains flavors of ’90s dance hits by the likes of C&C Music Factory, Snap! and RuPaul, and a chorus that “vaguely” recalls Survivor’s “Eye of the Tiger.” And “Hair” features LG proudly proclaiming “I am my hair!” for reasons unknown.

On Friday, Gaga’s “Born This Way” officially became the fastest-selling song in iTunes history, having blown past the million-download mark in just five days. The song is also #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and sits atop the charts in 23 different countries. The video is reportedly set to premiere this week.

Gaga’s Born This Way album is due May 23.

Justin Bieber Reveals Birthday Plans, Talks Haircut

‘I’m just going to relax,’ singer says of his plans.
By Jocelyn Vena

We imagine what Justin will be doing on his birthday
Photo: Getty Images

Justin Bieber turns 17 on March 1, and he’s revealing what his plans are for the big day.

“I only have, like, four days, so I’m just going to relax, because I start my world tour starting on [March 4] — so just going to mentally prepare and just relax,” Justin told “Entertainment Tonight.” “No birthday bash. … Hopefully my grandparents will be out here and I’ll be able to spend time, a little bit, with them. My grandma makes the best cheesecake — cherry cheesecake. She made that for my 13th birthday.”

Of course, Bieber’s birthday isn’t the only thing making headlines these days. His new haircut has also been causing quite the hoopla, but Bieber seems to be brushing it off. “I just wanted to [cut my hair], that’s all. Not really a big reason; I just woke up and said, ‘I don’t want this anymore,’ so I just cut it,” he said. “It’s not really about that. You know, the fans really liked it, but they’ll like me no matter what, because I think it’s about the music. I’m really excited to see what the fans overseas think and take it day by day.”

Bieber will re-release his 3-D flick “Never Say Never” this weekend. “It’s 40 minutes of extra footage, so it’s basically like a new movie,” he says. “It’s real exciting, because it shows me and my friends more and it shows a different part of the concert, so it’s going to be great. Hopefully all the fans will go back and watch it.”

Next week, in addition to his birthday, Bieber will also kick off his European tour. “I’m excited to see what [Willow Smith] brings to the table,” he said. “We start on March 4, so she’s really excited, and she told me that she can’t wait — and she’s adorable — so I can’t wait.

“I have such great people around me and such good family,” he added. “I just want to be a good role model to people, and to be able to just make good music. … I’m going to make mistakes, but it’s about learning from them and becoming better. … My movie shows that anything is possible and dreams do come true. … Remember to always stay humble and always be gracious and anything can happen.”

What do you think about Bieber’s new ‘do? Let us know in the comments!

Beyonce’s Mom Says Daughter’s Style Has Always Been ‘Edgy’

‘It’s just a result of her constantly evolving,’ Tina Knowles says of the fashion in Beyonce’s “I Am … World Tour” DVD concert special.
By Jocelyn Vena

Beyoncé has never been shy about hitting the stage in stunning costumes. Her appearance has always been a mixture of showgirl sparkle and pop star razzle-dazzle. And her style is on full display in her new DVD concert special, “I Am … World Tour.”

Her mom and stylist, Tina Knowles, said that while the looks may seem a bit edgier than what fans have seen from the singer in the past, she thinks that her superstar daughter has always been ahead of the style curve.

“Well, the wonderful Thierry Mugler designed the costumes, and I actually worked on some of the dancers and the band, and it was just amazing to work with him because he is so creative,” Knowles told MTV News at a New York screening of the special. “So it’s just a result of her constantly evolving, but she’s been edgy. It’s funny for people to say she went more edgy, but she’s been wearing body suits and that type of thing.”

And while Knowles may act as her daughter’s stylist and costume designer, she says that Bey’s style decisions are all her own. “Well, we discussed her working with Thierry Mugler, and I’m the biggest fan. And so she had seen some of the fashions and she loved it,” she said. “So we always discuss things, but it’s her decision, it’s her career.”

Beyoncé, who also directed the concert special , said it gave her a better understanding of the filmmaking process. “It was hard work,” she said. “I learned so much. I have a new respect for directors and I think I would like to do more of it. … Well, I’ve done some co-directing for music videos [but] this was definitely a big step for me, and I’m so thrilled.”

‘Hall Pass’: The Reviews Are In!

The critics weigh in on whether Farrelly brothers’ latest is worth getting out of class.
By Eric Ditzian

Jason Sudeikis and Owen Wilson in “Hall Pass”
Photo: New Line Cinema

Last weekend, Liam Neeson’s “Unknown” pulled off a surprise box-office win after “I Am Number Four” failed to attract even a fraction of its “Twilight”-obsessed target audience. This weekend, though, we can be relatively certain which film will land in the top spot. For the first time since 2000′s “Me, Myself & Irene,” Bobby and Peter Farrelly should be able to nab the weekend’s #1 slot with their new comedy, “Hall Pass.”

Like “Unknown,” the film has received mixed reviews, but in these early, often barren months at the multiplex, that hardly matters. Check out what the critics are saying about “Hall Pass.”

The Story
“Rick (Owen Wilson) and Fred (Jason Sudeikis) are a pair of husbands whose marriages are, at this point, held together by their urges to check out other women. Their wives, Maggie (Jenna Fischer) and Grace (Christina Applegate), are as bored with their husbands’ straying eyes as their husbands are with marriage. Rick and Fred are released back into the wild by their wives, Lucy and Ethel — I mean, Maggie and Grace — and given a week free of marriage responsibility. The men are allowed seven days to pursue the girls of their dreams. It’s charming that ‘Pass’ realizes how flimsy it is, conceptually; the women causing the domestic tedium are played by actresses who, when they were dewier, played the girls that caused men to drive into trees — a throwaway joke itself. And the movie is self-aware enough to toy with the misogyny of its premise; Maggie and Grace suspect their men wouldn’t know what to do with freedom.” — Elvis Mitchell, Movieline

The Performances
” ‘Hall Pass’ presents these men as a new archetype: the frustrated middle-aged husband as randy adolescent virgin. Wilson, geeked out in super-square hair, knows how to use his gentleness to turn himself into a figure of soft desperation. And ‘Saturday Night Live’ ‘s Sudeikis, in his first major movie role, has an agreeably dorky, bootlicking officiousness. (Fred thinks that he’s scored a victory if he figures out how to look at a woman’s behind without his wife seeing him.) They are so domesticated, the joke is they don’t even know their pent-up sexual frustration is driving them nuts.” — Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly

The Laughs and the Look
“The slapstick and action comedy interludes are haphazardly executed at best, and matters aren’t helped by the film’s incredibly ugly look; for whatever reason, the productions from New Line Cinema since its absorption by Warner Bros. appear poorly lighted, processed and/or printed, resulting in blotchy, bleachy results that do no favors to the actors.” — Todd McCarthy, The Hollywood Reporter

The Dissenters
“Like many comedies, ‘Hall Pass’ is more a succession of gags and skits than an actual movie; when it reaches for something more than low-rent laughs, it really slips. The attempted commentary on love, fidelity and appreciation are off-putting, a side plot about a violent psycho simply bizarre. Wilson doesn’t seem to be trying, and Fischer and Applegate, typically game for anything, are given nothing worthwhile to do. What laughs there are come mostly courtesy of Sudeikis and, of all people, Richard Jenkins in a surprising role. Also, the description ‘gross-out comedy’ has rarely been more apt. Except maybe for the comedy part.” — Bill Goodykoontz, The Arizona Republic

How Does It Compare to Past Farrelly Flicks?
“Those cheerful shlockmeisters Peter and Bobby Farrelly, who co-wrote and directed the film, are more laid-back here than they were in ‘There’s Something About Mary,’ ‘Kingpin’ or ‘Dumb and Dumber.’ They make you laugh at some pretty revolting things, and the ratio of sexual/scatological giggles to groaners is high. But the brothers dialed back the lewd lunatic energy that is their signature. The film’s longest-running gag is that the men, sprung from the straitjacket of monogamy, leer at almost every woman they get near, but are too square and meek to score.” — Colin Covert, Minneapolis Star Tribune

‘Justin Bieber: Never Say Never’ Director Jon Chu Tapped For ‘G.I. Joe 2′

‘I still think there’s a movie out there that can be done for the real ‘Joe’ fans,’ Chu said of helming sequel.
By Shawn Adler

He’s survived gunfights, and bombings, and enough doomsday machines to make James Bond blush, but action icon G.I. Joe may have finally met one affliction he couldn’t counter: Bieber Fever.

“Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” director Jon Chu is going from helming a flick about a boy wonder to helming one about a toy wonder, with news that the 31-year-old has been chosen to direct “G.I. Joe 2,” according to a report on Deadline.

As Paramount’s first choice for the action sequel, Chu beat out rumored competitors Gary Grey and Jaume Collet-Serra.

For Chu, the chance to direct “G.I. Joe 2″ is a chance to fulfill a lifelong dream, having been a fan of the character since he was a little child.

“‘Joe’ is something I’ve loved since I was a kid,” Chu confessed to MTV News when word of his possible involvement first leaked. “My era was ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,’ ‘G.I. Joe’ and ‘Transformers; When ‘Joe’ changed their theme song from the old style ‘Go Joe!’ to ‘Got to get tough, go Joe!’ That was the era I was in. Those are the fun, glory years that I remember.”

Directed by Stephen Sommers and starring, among others, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Channing Tatum, and Sienna Miller, “G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra” was released in 2009 to over $300 million worldwide but mostly middling reviews.

While it is unclear which of the stars will return for the sequel, Chu believes there’s a definite opportunity to build on the first film’s successes, while possibly taking the sequel in another direction.

“I still think there’s a movie out there that can be done for the real ‘Joe’ fans,” he said, “the one we’ve been waiting for that hasn’t been done before.”

That other direction almost certainly won’t include casting Justin Bieber. Asked if he could envision the pop superstar in fatigues, Chu simply laughed.

“That’s hilarious,” he chuckled.

Currently in its third week of release, “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never” has earned nearly $60 million at the domestic box office. A “Director’s Fan Cut” of the film with extended footage is currently in release for an exclusive one-week run.

Lenny Kravitz Hints At Collaboration With Drake, Swizz Beatz

‘It’s great to meet people that I want to collaborate with at this point,’ the rocker tells MTV News.

Rocker Lenny Kravitz keeps his hip-hop collaborations few and far between. But when a photo of Kravitz, Drake and Swizz Beatz together in a studio hit the Internet, speculation was set off that the trio was cooking up a hi-wattage musical union. MTV News caught up with Kravitz prior to his performance before tip-off at the NBA All-Star Game and asked what exactly was in the works.

“That’s some secret business, man,” Kravitz told MTV News slyly. “Who knows what was going on that night?!”

Nevertheless, Kravitz revealed some more details when asked for his thoughts on Toronto rapper Drake.

“I think he’s a very talented individual,” Kravitz said of the child-actor-turned-rapper. “His new music is even more incredible. We got together and played around so there might be a little something happening, yeah …”

When asked about producer Swizz Beatz, Kravitz gave up even more intel.

“He is an amazing person,” Kravitz said of Swizz. “I got to know him through Alicia [Keys, who is Beatz's wife]. And we’ve become very good friends. He’s a gentleman. He’s a very intelligent person and I enjoy his company. When things happen organically, it’s nice. I’m not one that normally collaborates. I play all the instruments, I produce my records. And it’s great to meet people that I want to collaborate with at this point.”

Some of Kravitz’s limited collabos with the hip-hop world include 2002′s “Show Me Your Soul” with Diddy, Loon and Pharrell from the Bad Boys 2 soundtrack and “Storm,” featuring Jay-Z from his Baptism album. Kravitz also played guitar on the song “Guns & Roses” from Jay-Z’s The Blueprint 2: The Gift & The Curse album.

Last year, Kravitz revealed that Teena Marie took him in when he was a teenager and credited the late soul singer with saving his life.

What do you think about Kravitz collaborating with Drake and Swizz Beatz? Let us know in the comments.

Justin Bieber ‘Doesn’t Really Care’ What People Think Of His Haircut

‘I was inspired by yours,’ Bieber tells Ellen DeGeneres of his new hairstyle.
By Jocelyn Vena

Justin Bieber appears on “Ellen” on Wednesday
Photo: ABC

Justin Bieber made headlines on Tuesday when it was revealed he had cut his hair, opting for a shorter, cropped version of his famous swooping hairstyle. The star sat down with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres on Wednesday (February 23) to talk about the new look, and even had a special treat for the comedienne.

“I was inspired by yours,” Bieber joked about what motivated the change, adding that he knew people would protest the new look. “Yeah [people were freaking out], but I was like, ‘I don’t really care.’ ”

Bieber then preceded to hand a lock of his famous sandy-colored hair to the host, with one major caveat. “Yes, it’s really my hair, but there’s a perk. I wanted to do something good. I’m giving pieces of it to different people,” he explained. “The thing is, we’re doing something special. We want you to donate it to whatever charity you want.”

DeGeneres agreed, also requesting that the star sign something to auction off with it. She announced that she’d be giving the money raised in the auction on her website to the California animal-rescue center the Gentle Barn.

DeGeneres tried to cut Bieber’s hair last May when the teen star stopped by her show. Holding up scissors, she said she wanted to cut “just a little” bit of his famous hair. He declined, but did share his secret for perfect hair. “Like five minutes,” Bieber explained. “Like seriously. … I get out of the shower, I blow-dry it and it’s done in five minutes. I just shake [my head].”

Bieber is out promoting his 3-D movie, “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never,” which is being re-released on Friday with additional footage.

Beyonce May Work With Diplo, Sleigh Bells On New Album

Producer says he was ‘in NYC tryin’ to make tracks’ for B and Bells’ songwriter/guitarist.
By James Montgomery

Over the years, Diplo has worked with everyone from Thom Yorke to Spank Rock (and, of course, M.I.A.) so perhaps it should come as no surprise that, for his next collaboration, he’s chosen to work with none other than Beyoncé. Oh, and electro-slammers Sleigh Bells, too. It all makes sense, in some bizarre way.

This is according to Dip himself, who posted a message — and a remix of the Sleigh Bells track “Tell ‘Em” — on his blog, in which he let it be known that he, his production partner Switch and Sleigh Bells’ songwriter/guitarist Derek Miller just wrapped sessions for Beyoncé’s follow-up to I Am … Sasha Fierce. He wasn’t quite sure what would come of the tracks they created.

“Me and Switch was in [the] studio in NYC tryin’ to make tracks with Derek and Beyoncé last week after we played her team [Sleigh Bells'] album,” Diplo wrote. “Dunno if we gonna manage to finish, but [it] was good times.”

At the very least, you know Bey’s husband, indie-rock fan Jay-Z, is pumped by the news. Diplo is just the latest in an ever-growing list of top-flight producers who have worked with Beyoncé in recent months. There’s still no release date or tentative title for her upcoming album, but she’s logged studio time with the likes of S1 (he of “Power” fame), Ne-Yo, Sean Garrett and Jim Jonsin.

A spokesperson for Beyoncé did not respond to MTV News’ request for comment on the Diplo tracks by press time.

Ke$ha Says She’s ‘Disappointed’ By Grammy Snub

‘I plan on making a lot more records, and hopefully one of them will be Grammy-worthy,’ singer tells Vanity Fair.
By James Dinh

Last year was full of breakout music stars, including Ke$ha, who ruled the scene with a string of dance-pop hits (and a massive overflow of glitter). But not everyone is a Ke$ha fan: The singer was snubbed when the 2011 Grammy nominees were announced in December.

The starlet recently spoke to Vanity Fair about the Grammy snub and said she’s determined to score a nod sometime later in her career. And after calling the Recording Academy’s award “not that big a deal,” Ke$ha admitted that she was saddened by her lack of nominations.

“Of course I do,” the singer said when asked if she wanted a Grammy. “I was disappointed that I didn’t get nominated. But I’ve only been around for a year. I’m friends with the Black Keys, and they were nominated for the first time this year. And they’ve been around for a decade. That’s like half my life, so I really can’t be a brat about it.”

Ke$ha isn’t bitter about the situation either, telling the magazine, “I plan on making a lot more records, and hopefully one of them will be Grammy-worthy.”

While she may not be gearing up for the big show on Sunday night, Ke$ha is prepping for the launch of her first North American headlining tour, the Get $leazy Tour. The country-wide trek is scheduled to kick off on Tuesday in Portland, Oregon, and continue through May.

Do you think Ke$ha deserved a Grammy nomination? Share your thoughts in the comments!

Lady Gaga Gets Ethereal for Viva Glam MAC Video

‘I wanted the campaign to feel a bit more timeless,’ company’s creative director explains.
By Jocelyn Vena

Lady Gaga for MAC Viva Glam
Photo: Nick Knight

Lady Gaga’s new short film for her work with MAC’s Viva Glam line is a ethereal, ghostly affair that blends well with the pop star’s current color scheme. The Nick Knight-directed clip features Gaga in shades of blush, nude and champagne almost floating alongside romantic images of martinis, flowers and perfume bottles. Airy house music plays as Gaga’s flowing dress is blown about and she seduces the camera in various states of undress.

For photos of Gaga’s Viva Gam line, click here.

This year’s Viva Glam shades, which raise money for the MAC AIDS Fund, will be available for purchase next month. James Gager, SVP, Creative Director of MAC said that hooking up with Gaga for a second year (she teamed up with Cyndi Lauper last year) seemed like the most natural fit.

“She’s an amazing fit for us in so many ways. I think the most important quality is that she is real and she speaks her mind. When MAC originally started, it was truly a place for all the misfits of the world, where they could feel comfortable and know that they wouldn’t be criticized. We’ve always been all about welcoming everyone into our universe. Gaga is bringing that same spirit to the world. She spreads this message of ‘Don’t be afraid to be who you are, don’t let people put you down,’ and radiates this sense of empowerment. Look at how courageously she’s been speaking out lately,” he said. “She’s so passionate, focused and articulate, and I think we are, too. Especially with Viva Glam, we really put ourselves out there and every cent goes to the cause.”

As for the sexy video, Gager explained that it was a joint effort, like so many of her projects. “Working with Gaga is very much a partnership: It’s a team effort and collaboration,” he said. “The photographer Nick Knight, Gaga’s stylist Nicola Formichetti and I wanted the campaign to feel a bit more timeless, but still very much her. Last year was all about a fun, feminine kind of sensibility, so I think if you compare that with what we’ve created this year, it’s refreshing to see her in a way you wouldn’t expect. We thought: ‘Let’s go with the idea of nude and the stripping away of what she’s famous for and make her a little more elusive and evasive.’ The tone is undeniably glamorous as well.”

Not only were the visuals for the campaign inspired by Gaga’s aesthetic, but it seems this year’s shades were also modified to fit Gaga’s current look. “Jennifer Balbier [the company's SVP of product development] and I felt that after last year’s shades — Gaga’s fun pink and Cyndi’s coral red — it was time to move in a new direction,” he explained. “I think Gaga herself has moved into nude tones, and we didn’t want to shoot something that was out of place. So she was actually part of the inspiration.”

Last week, when Gaga appeared on “Good Morning America” to talk about Viva Glam, she said her outfit was condom-inspired, in honor of the lipstick’s AIDS-awareness mission.

“I want to get people started at home at a younger age with their children talking about HIV, talking about AIDS, talking about safe sex,” Gaga explained.

Yelawolf Talks Signing To Eminem’s Label, Upcoming Album

‘It’s a huge deal being able to have a mentor in someone who’s done this for so long,’ the Alabama rapper says of Em.
By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Rahman Dukes

Photo: MTV News

Yelawolf is just as excited about getting signed to Eminem’s label as his fans are. During NBA All-Star Weekend, the latest Shady Records signee was on the set of Travis Barker’s video shoot for “Can a Drummer Get Some.” MTV News caught up with the Alabama rapper to talk about rolling with Team Shady.

“I’m just out here supporting the crew, the Famous Stars and Straps crew. Travis is the homey,” Yelawolf told MTV News, name checking the Blink-182 drummer’s clothing line. “So I came up out to Hollywood to cameo. Just out here having fun, man.”

Although Yelawolf doesn’t appear on “Can a Drummer Get Some,” from Barker’s upcoming Give the Drummer Some album, he does have a guest spot on “Let’s Go,” featuring Busta Rhymes and Twista. Besides dropping cameo verses — last year he appeared on Big Boi’s “You Ain’t No DJ” — the Southern rapper keeps a busy schedule with his own projects.

“That’s my bread and butter,” Yelawolf said. “That’s really what I do it for. I make records and do shows. That’s what I’ve been doing consistently. I got tour dates coming up. I’m on the Warped Tour this year. Other than that, just making records. Setting up for my release, Radioactive, this summer. My freshman release on Shady [Records].”

Yela flew in to make his cameo appearance from Las Vegas, where he is putting finishing touches on Radioactive. He also expressed enthusiasm over the privilege of working with Eminem and fellow Shady signees Slaughterhouse (Crooked I, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Royce Da 5’9″), which he called “Shady 2.0.”

“I mean, it’s a huge deal being able to have a mentor in someone who’s done this for so long and been through so much,” Yelawolf said of Eminem. “And also artistically just pushing me to be better. Being around them dudes will make you better naturally. So we’re excited, man.”

Yelawolf then explained that his Shady debut — he released a retail mixtape called Trunk Muzik 0-60 last year — will be a step up from the material that made him an underground rap sensation.

“This Radioactive release this summer, [I'm] stepping it up completely, stepping out of mixtapes and making an album,” Yelawolf said. “The album is done outside of features. I’ve locked myself in a studio for a couple of weeks in Vegas in Mally Mal’s spot [with] WillPower, the Audibles, Pooh Bear, Ghet-O-Vision, Shady — we just got together and made it happen.”

Are you excited to hear Yelawolf’s Radioactive album? Tell us in the comments.

Lady Gaga Previews Born This Way Tracks

Rolling Stone heard four new songs, which seem to draw from the past while still pushing the envelope.
By MTV News Staff Report

Justin Bieber’s ‘Never Say Never’ Re-Release: Five Secrets Revealed

Director Jon M. Chu reveals more about the 40 minutes of new footage fans will see this weekend.
By Eric Ditzian

By now, most citizens of Bieber nation have undoubtedly canceled all weekend plans, purchased advance tickets for the super-size version of “Never Say Never,” and are plotting the most stress-free path toward the multiplex to catch the revamped film’s arrival in 3-D theaters on Friday (February 25).

But what exactly will you find up on the big screen when you slip on those purple 3-D glasses just three weeks after the original flick debuted? Team Bieber has promised over half an hour of new Justin-approved video, including fresh performances, footage from pre-release screenings and further glimpses at Justin’s downtime with his pals.

That’s a little vague for our liking, so we hit up director Jon M. Chu for some insight into what’s being touted as a “Director’s Fan Cut.” While Chu lamented that he didn’t get a chance to shoot Bieber’s fresh haircut in 3-D for the revamped flick, he did reveal five secrets to keep an eye out for when the new “Never Say Never” arrives in theaters.

There Are 40 Minutes of New Footage, Not 30
In a YouTube video announcement, Chu told fans that the new version would include 30 minutes of new footage. But a subsequent Paramount press release pegged the number at 40 minutes. So which is it?

“That was my mistake!” laughed Chu. “I didn’t time it out. I was like, ‘I’ll just say over 30 minutes, and we’ll be good to go. But they timed it and it is 40 minutes. The point is, there’s a crapload of stuff in there.

“We originally had a two-and-a-half-hour version of the movie, which we obviously couldn’t release,” he added. “So we started to think about putting stuff back in that didn’t have to do with our story but that we knew people would love.”

“Omaha Mall” Is Coming for You
This rock/rap tune became a fan favorite after Bieber posted it on YouTube, and the reworked “Never Say Never” will pull back the curtain on the song’s creation for the first time on the big screen.

“We see the creation of ‘Omaha Mall’ and how that came to be,” Chu told us. “We also get to see way more baby videos. We sit on a lot more shots, so it’s like you’re sitting with him in the living room, just watching.”

Get Ready for Bieber’s Abs
“Twilight” fans know what to expect when they hit the multiplex for the first viewing of a franchise film: Taylor Lautner without a shirt on. But Beliebers may have been surprised — and, no doubt, delighted — to sit down for “Never Say Never” and be treated to scene after scene of Justin sans T-shirt. When it comes to the new version, fans should expect even more skin.

“I can’t confirm nor deny those reports, but we do what the fans want,” Chu laughed. “If that’s what the fans want, then they’ll get a little bit more. Maybe some abs!”

You’ll Truly See What It’s Like to Be Bieber’s Buddy
Such is the effect of Bieber Fever that the singer’s friends, Ryan Butler and Chaz Somer, have become stars in their own right. And while they pop up a bit in the movie, Chu said that fans couldn’t get enough of these two Canadian teens.

“Chaz and Ryan have their own followings, and one of the biggest pieces of feedback we got is that fans want more Chaz and Ryan,” the director said. “In this version, we get to see what it’s like to be part of the entourage. We go to their homes in Stratford. People call from all around the world and disrupt their dinners. It’s absolutely insane. They’re superstars.”

Hello, “Favorite Girl”!
While the re-cut flick introduces 40 minutes of new footage, the overall running time is only 10 minutes longer. So what did Chu cut? He took out Bieber’s lengthy, pre-MSG visit to the doctor, added in new scenes of tickets being given away outside concerts and swapped out some performances that didn’t make it into the original release.

“Before we had to make a choice between ‘Favorite Girl’ and ‘Never Let You Go,’ because they’re the same [in-concert] set-up with the heart,” he said. “We couldn’t play both. So this time, we made the choice to have ‘Favorite Girl,’ which is one of my favorite songs that he plays. People are going to love it.”

Check out everything we’ve got on “Justin Bieber: Never Say Never.”

Usher’s ‘OMG’ ‘ ‘Kills It Every Night,’ Says Tourmate Miguel

‘There’s so much anticipation for this song when he comes out,’ Miguel says of MTV News’ Song of the Year.
By Vaughn Trudeau Schoonmaker

MTV News just named Usher’s “OMG” the #1 song of 2010, and clearly we’re not alone in our admiration. But what is it like to watch it performed night after night? Miguel, who is currently opening for Usher’s OMG Tour gave us a little insight.

“There’s so much anticipation for this song when he comes out, and he really gives the fans what they want,” Miguel laughs. “He kills it every night.”

Before his latest string of hits, Usher was out of the spotlight for a period of time in 2009, when he was dealing with personal issues including a divorce. Miguel finds his 2010 comeback inspiring.

“There was a period of time, when a lot of people didn’t believe in Usher and thought he was finished … just kind of going to ride off into the sunset and disappear,” the up-and-coming singer noted.

With the release of Raymond vs. Raymond and its extended, companion EP, Versus, in 2010, Usher proved the skeptics wrong with chart-toppers including “OMG” and “DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love.”

“He’s such a tremendous example of perseverance and determination,” Miguel beamed. “I was there throughout this album, so I’ve seen the adversity that he’s had to overcome perception-wise.”

MTV News’ Top 25 Songs of 2010 have all been counted down. But the fun isn’t over yet: We still want to see your picks in the comments below!

Lady Gaga Salutes Town That Made Her ‘Brave’ At MSG

Gaga shouts out Liza Minnelli, Marisa Tomei and a gay unicorn in the second of two hometown shows.
By Vaughn Schoonmaker

NEW YORK — “Tonight, in the town where the gays birthed me, you can be free!” Lady Gaga announced at her Monster Ball show Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden.

On this second night in her hometown, Lady Gaga was being filmed by HBO for her concert special that will air in early May. And though it wasn’t her first time playing MSG, she still felt the significance of headlining the venue. “I used to live 20 blocks from here, so I saw all those names go up on the marquis, and I always wanted to see my name up in those lights.

“You made me brave, little monsters,” she informed her squealing fans of all ages, “and New York made me brave.”

Liza Minnelli and Marisa Tomei were both in the audience, and Gaga asked for her monsters to cheer on the two women, who she said greatly influenced her.

“I don’t lip-synch,” Gaga reminded the audience who was already quite aware of that impressive fact, considering all of the heavy dancing mixed with extended high notes. “I’m not going to waste your time watching some bitch lip-synch her way to an HBO special, especially not with Liza watching.” Gaga recently said in an interview that she would want Marisa Tomei, above anyone else, to play her in a movie.

While performing all of her hits from The Fame and The Fame Monster, Gaga took plenty of time to speak to the crowd directly, and her witty banter had the room laughing every moment they weren’t cheering their lungs out.

Someone in the audience held up a bright purple unicorn stuffed animal, and Gaga caught sight of it when flashing her disco stick flashlight around the crowd. “That is the most fabulous gay unicorn I have ever seen,” she remarked, as straight-faced as ever. “The only thing better than a unicorn is a gay unicorn.”

The evening flowed seamlessly from the moment Gaga took the stage with her dark pop tune, “Dance in the Dark,” disguising her dozen or so costume changes with dazzling art videos. The videos often depicted Gaga in a pose or in extreme slow motion, creating the sense of a moving portrait, surrounded by driving club dance beats. Some of the images included tears of blood, neon-green vomit, gothic clothing and bondage attire. The show itself could be an installment at a high-end gallery.

Gaga’s incessant devotion to LGBT rights was in full effect during her two hours on stage. She called a fan in the audience, Jimmy DiPasquale, who had made a generous donation to her LGBT youth fund, to thank him personally. At the end of “Alejandro,” while the beat continued to thump, two of her male backup dancers took the stage and made out passionately as the curtain came down.

As Gaga drove the night toward her two encores of “Bad Romance” and new single “Born This Way,” she looked on the verge of tears and announced, “This is the last of five sold-out shows here, but I hope this song and this record bring us back here next year.”

Ke$ha Sued By Former Managers

DAS Communications’ lawyer claims producer Dr. Luke convinced her to breach contract.
By Jocelyn Vena

Ke$ha is being sued by her former managers at DAS Communications for upwards of $14 million, Ken Freundlich, who is representing DAS in the case, confirmed to MTV News.

“DAS was Ke$ha’s manager since the beginning of 2006, and there was a written agreement, and they worked closely, and sometime in September 2008 [producer] Dr. Luke, for his own personal gain, somehow induced her to breach that contract,” Freundlich said. “And she unceremoniously terminated DAS without justification and then ended up with Luke, basically. So we sued Ke$ha for breach of contract and Luke for interference, and that was last year, and the defense’s reaction was to try and delay us. They made motions.

“The judge denied all their motions, and now we’re going forward. We’re going to have our day in court,” he continued. “And we’re going to prove that Dr. Luke induced her to breach the contract. She had no right to do so, and we’re gonna get damages from her.”

Freundlich explained how he and his team came to the $14 million sum, explaining, “We don’t know exactly how much, but we assume it’s in that range. She’s been quite successful. The case is set. It’s gonna go on the rest of this year. We’re gonna go straight to the trial if we have to.”

Ke$ha has filed a suit in California against the management team, but Freundlich is confident nothing will come of her claim that they acted as an “illegal talent agent.” “That’s pending out in California. Even though that case is still pending, I don’t think it has any merit,” he said.

Calls to Ke$ha’s legal team and rep were not returned to MTV News by press time.

Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Slash Light Up Super Bowl XLV Halftime Show

Foursome is joined by special guests and tons of lights for smash-hit medley.

The Black Eyed Peas promised a party at the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday (February 6), and the pop supernovas definitely delivered, with a performance teeming with lights, dancers and surprise appearances from celebrity pals.

Following a Chatter.com commercial that showed animated versions of the Peas showing off their social-media skills, the group kicked things off with their 2009 smash “I Gotta Feeling,” descending from the ceiling on illuminated platforms onto a stage surrounded by a cluster of dancers clad in white bodysuits. The foursome led the team of fist-pumping troops in “Tron”-like getups, with Taboo sporting an outfit covered in flashing lights, will.i.am rocking a shiny hairpiece, Apl.de.ap wearing huge bright studs and Fergie vamping it up in bling-laden shoulder pads.

When the speaker-busting bass of “Boom Boom Pow” dropped, the dancers dispersed across the field to create arrow-shaped formations as the glow-in-the-dark lights on their suits illuminated the stadium. Then rumored surprise guest Slash of Guns N’ Roses rose from below the stage for a “Sweet Child O’ Mine” duet with Fergie. The GNR great rocked a finger-searing solo in a studded version of his signature black top hat as more angular platforms and dancers moved across the gridiron. The platforms were bearing scores of marching-band musicians who blasted their horns and pounded away on their drums as the Peas went into “Pump It” and blue lights splashed across the production.

Quick streams of fog heralded the arrival of the Peas’ second surprise guest, Usher, who swooped in on a long chain to bust out his will.i.am-assisted joint “OMG.” Rocking a sparkly collar on an otherwise all-white ensemble, the R&B hitmaker cranked out several counts of energetic choreography, enlivening moves from his “OMG” video and at one point jumping over Will and landing in a split.

A spray of pyro ushered in the collective’s breakout 2003 hit “Where Is the Love?” as the oddly shaped platforms spelled out the word “Love” in bright-red letters. The team of dancers, which appeared to have multiplied to over 100, formed hearts across the field as will updated the lyrics of the smash with lines like, “Obama, let’s get these educated.”

Then the group jumped ahead to their most recent single, 2010′s “The Time (Dirty Bit),” as several back up hoofers rocking cubed helmets joined the Peas onstage and dancers lined up along the gridiron to simultaneously bust out the Running Man, a move which drew cheers from the crowd.

The platinum-selling Peas wrapped up the performance with a reprise of “I Gotta Feeling,” as the quartet triumphantly signed off amid of blitz of fog, firepower and flashing lights.

Ripping the halftime show was clearly a touching moment for will, who tweeted beforehand, “Me and apl started the peas when we were 16 yesterday we were dreamin now were livin it. Wow. I’m not crying out of sadness or nervousness its joy and pride and memories and the journey.”

And once the crew left the stage, the frontman was not only proud, but pumped. “That was so freakin sick,” he wrote. “Wow…!!!”

What did you think of the Black Eyed Peas’ Super Bowl performance? Let us know in the comments!

Justin Bieber, Eminem Grammy Snubs Prompt Open Letter From Hip-Hop Brand Manager

‘The awards show has become a series of hypocrisies and contradictions,’ writes Steve Stoute in full page ad.
By Shawn Adler

Photo: Theo Wargo/WireImage

Ad man, brand manager and occasional consigliere to many of hip-hop’s most powerful stars, marketing mogul Steve Stoute took out a full page ad in Sunday’s New York Times Style Section blasting the Grammy Awards, its parent organizational, The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), and its president, Neil Portnow, for what he feels is both increasing irrelevance and possible malfeasance.

“Over the course of my 20-year history as an executive in the music business and as the owner of a firm that specializes in in-culture advertising, I have come to the conclusion that the Grammy Awards have clearly lost touch with contemporary popular culture,” he wrote in the ad, which took the form of an open letter. “The awards show has become a series of hypocrisies and contradictions, leaving me to question why any contemporary popular artist would even participate.”

In particular, Stoute focused on the relatively recent snubs of Eminem, Kayne West, and Justin Bieber, all musicians he believes have been unfairly beaten for awards by inferior artistic and commercial acts.

“We must acknowledge the massive cultural impact of Eminem and Kanye West and how their music is shaping, influencing and defining the voice of a generation,” Stoute wrote of the two hip-hop superstars, adding of Bieber, “How is it that Justin Bieber, an artist that defines what it means to be a modern artist, did not win Best New Artist?”

While acknowledging in his letter that the most popular acts aren’t always deserving of awards simply on the basis of their commercial success, of particular focus for Stoute is the seeming dichotomy between musicians the award ceremony chooses to honor and musicians the ceremony asks to perform.

“While these very artists that the public acknowledges as being worthy of their money and fandom are snubbed year after year at the Grammys, the awards show has absolutely no qualms in inviting these same artists to perform,” he wrote. “Interesting that the Grammys understands cultural relevance when it comes to using Eminem’s, Kayne West’s or Justin Bieber’s name in the billing [but not when handing out trophies].”

Not content to simply attribute these gaps to the general irrelevance or ignorance of the NARAS voters, Stoute goes on to suggest that performances are scheduled much more cynically and crassly, citing this year’s Best Album winner Arcade Fire as an example of an act too serendipitous to be coincidental.

“What truly inspired the writing of this letter was that this most recent show fed my suspicions. As the show was coming to a close and just prior to presenting the award for Album of the Year, Arcade Fire performed ‘Month of May’ only to, surprise, win the category and, in a moment of sheer coincidence, happened to be prepared to perform ‘Ready to Start’,” he wrote. “Does the Grammys intentionally use artists for their celebrity, popularity and cultural appeal when they already know the winners and then program a show against this expectation?”

According to the official website of the Grammys, it would be impossible for anyone to know the winners of the various awards before the show, as they are delivered in sealed envelopes to the presenters by Deloitte Accounting.

The winners themselves are determined by several rounds of submission and voting, starting with a screening process where 150 “experts” ensure “that each entry is placed in its proper category.”

From there, nomination ballots are sent out. Voters are encouraged to vote only in their area of expertise in addition to the four general categories, incidentally the same categories Stoute has the most problems with: Record Of The Year, Album Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best New Artist.

The top five vote getters from this process are listed as the official nominees. Finally, ballots are sent out with the new, limited choices to determine a winner.

Not good enough, Stoute says, believing this system is possibly ripe for being corrupted.

“The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences hides behind the ‘peer’ voting system to escape culpability for not even rethinking this approach,” he writes. “You are being called to task at this very moment, NARAS.”

Representatives from NARAS have not responded to MTV’s request for comment by press time.

Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Is Fastest-Selling Single In iTunes History

Song has sold more than 1 million downloads in five days.
By Gil Kaufman

Lady Gaga is starting to make this look too easy. Every time Mother Monster releases a new single or video, she smashes some kind of previous record.

Apple’s iTunes announced on Friday (February 18) that Gaga’s “Born This Way” is now officially the fastest-selling single in the history of the iTunes store. And while Apple has historically declined to give out any sales figures for iTunes, it broke with protocol in a statement announcing the record, saying that “Born This Way” has hit #1 in all 23 countries with iTunes stories and sold more than 1 million tracks in just five days.

The feat tops a stellar week for Gaga, which included the single shooting straight to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart while becoming the 1,000th song to lead the list in its 52 year history.

“It is a tremendous honor,” Gaga told the magazine about reaching the chart milestone. “To be the 1000th no. 1 on Billboard … I would be silly not to say this is the greatest honor of my career. … I am so humbled and so honored and overwhelmed by the reception to ‘Born This Way.’ [It] has been so life-changing for me as an artist, and between Billboard and the international number ones and the radio numbers. … I couldn’t be more blessed to have the fans that I have.”

The first single from Gaga’s upcoming album of the same name, due out on May 23, has also opened in a major way at radio, rushing onto the Billboard Radio Songs airplay chart at #6 with a first week audience of more than 78 million, giving Gaga the highest opening for a song since the chart began incorporating all radio formats in 1998.

Foo Fighters Premiere High-Octane Single ‘Rope’

First release from Wasting Light is a definite departure, yet still remains true to their roots.
By James Montgomery

Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl
Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage

On Wednesday (February 23), the Foo Fighters unveiled “Rope,” the proper first single off their upcoming Wasting Light album. And while it’s nowhere near as gnarly as “White Limo” — the snarling promo clip they foisted on fans earlier this month (complete with an awesome VHS-filmed, Lemmy-infused video) it’s most certainly a lumbering beast in its own right.

Starting out with spacey, spare chords, “Rope” (which will be available for download on March 1) doesn’t take long to shift into high gear, switching into a thundering, twisting series of interlocking riffs, breakneck drumming, stop-start time signatures and, of course, an absolute earworm of a chorus, a characteristic that has become the Foo’s calling card.

“Gimme some rope, I’m coming loose, I’m hanging on you,” Dave Grohl sings, over a bed of roiling guitars. “Give me some rope, I’m coming loose, I’m pulling for you now.”

It all builds to a high-octane conclusion, with chords crashing and a skuzzy guitar solo unspooling above the din. There are, of course, nods to the proggy rock of Rush (the Foo Fighers are nothing if not traditionalists), but for the most part, “Rope” seems to keep with the spirit of what producer Butch Vig told MTV News back in January about Wasting Light (due April 12), which he described as “primal” and “raw.” The guitars are fuzzy and crushing, Taylor Hawkins’ drumming is loose and fluid (even on the breakdown) and Grohl, well, he certainly yowls.

It’s a gut-punch of frazzled guitars and stuttering tempos. At the same time, it feels right at home in the Foo Fighters’ canon, thanks in no small part to that hooky chorus. They may have gone back to the garage to make Wasting Light, but they certainly haven’t forgotten what got them to this point, either.

Ke$ha Rises From Oddball To Icon In 2010

This year, nobody defied description quite like Ke$ha, the pop oddity who shows no signs of slowing down.
By James Montgomery

Ke$ha
Photo: Venturelli/ Getty Images

In January, when “Tik Tok” was just starting to hit, I described Ke$ha as “a 22-year-old pop confectionary/cautionary tale.” By November, when “We R Who We R” debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, I had crowned her an “outcast icon.” The truth probably lies somewhere in between those two statements, but if there’s a better way to sum up the pop star’s rather incredible rise to fame, I am unaware of it.

Because in 2010, there really was no one else who came close to matching Ke$ha, whether in terms of sheer chart dominance (“Tik Tok,” enjoyed the year’s longest run at #1, spending nine weeks atop the Hot 100), or pure WTF-ery. She began the year as a belching, squelching, booze-swilling party monster and ended it as perhaps the most unlikely of role models — an unrepentant oddball who not only dared to speak her mind, but defy conventions, too. And through it all, she remained largely unclassifiable, shifting between genres (pop, hip-hop, rock) and personas (dumpster-diving diva, Topanga Canyon bohemian, DayGlo star child) with each successive hit. And because of that, Ke$ha became one of the year’s most interesting characters, the kind of pop oddity that leaves critics alternately grasping at adjectives and scratching their heads.

“I think ‘What is Ke$ha?’ is definitely the question, more than ‘Who is Ke$ha?’ because the ‘What?’ is really the thing,New York Times writer Jon Caramanica told MTV News. “When she first came into the game, she was this pop singer with a little bit of a country background, but [doing] this sort of whiny, white-girl rap … but, if anything, ‘Tik Tok’ proved there’s an entire audience of people who are pop fans, but who have a really high tolerance for rap music. Maybe they’re not going to buy a Kanye West record, but they’re not unafraid of hip-hop. And with Ke$ha, and her loose, ‘I don’t give a f—’ approach to making these songs resonates with the loose, ‘I don’t give a f—’ approach of the fans in listening to the songs. They hear something of themselves in her.”

Of course, Ke$ha suffered for her, uh, art, becoming one of the year’s most popular punching bags — particularly following a pair of bizarre performances on “Saturday Night Live” — but as the year draws to a close, her grip on the pop world seems to be permanent. Not only is she the unlikeliest of stars, she’s also one of the most persistent … and love her or hate her, you’ve got to admit that she made 2010 just a bit more bearable, even if it was with her willingness to push the boundaries of absurdity. Well, her songs were pretty great, too. And she did it entirely her way.

“I think Ke$ha’s definitely gone way past her 15 minutes of fame, [but] the appeal with her is that there’s an honesty,” Noah Callahan-Bever, editor in chief of Complex magazine, said. “In a market of totally prefab pop stuff, there’s almost a sloppiness to her whole persona, and I think that realness appeals to people. I think it doesn’t hurt that she works with the best producer in pop music, either,” he said, referring to right-hand man Dr. Luke.

In 2010, thanks to that winning combination of pitch-perfect pop and pure, unfiltered weirdness, Ke$ha pretty much conquered the world. She won over fans and earned begrudging respect from the critics. And she wore dead animals on her head. Wherever she goes in 2011, I’ll follow. And I’ll likely be just as perplexed as the rest of you.

Do you expect Ke$ha’s party to stop or keep rocking in 2011? Let us know in the comments.

Beyonce Working With Kanye West Producer S1

‘Power’ producer tweets he’s ‘finishing up some monsters’ after week in the studio with B.
By James Montgomery

Beyoncé’s already taken inspiration from the likes of Michael Jackson and Lauryn Hill, hit the studio with a list of producers that includes Ne-Yo, Sean Garrett and Jim Jonsin, and now, she’s hoping to capture the surge of Kanye West’s “Power.”

B — who’s already hard at work on the follow-up to her massive I Am … Sasha Fierce album — just wrapped a week in the studio with producer S1, the man who co-produced “Power” and has logged time with the likes of Ghostface Killah and Erykah Badu.

S1 broke the news via his Twitter account and also posted a photo of himself and B over on his official site. And from the sound of things, the sessions, which took place in New York City, were definitely eventful.

“A couple of meetings then back in the lab with Beyonce today,” he wrote in one tweet. “Excited to see what we’re gonna create today after last night’s session.

“Not going to bed anytime soon. Beyonce got us in here working and I’m loving every bit of it,” he wrote in another post. “Finishing up some monsters … everything is sounding really great and big!”

There’s still not much information about Beyoncé’s new album, though in an interview with “Entertainment Tonight” last year, she said that, this time out, she’s aiming to “make [her] own genre of music.” In a follow-up interview with MTV News, she clarified that statement, explaining that she’s “mixing every type of genre that I love” on the new album, and added, “I’m not in a box. It’s not R&B. It’s not typically pop. It’s not rock. It’s just everything I love all mixed together in my own little gumbo of music.”

What do you think S1′s work with Beyoncé will sound like? Tell us in the comments!

Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, Muse Added To Grammy Show

Usher, Jaden Smith, B.o.B, Janelle Monae and Lady Antebellum will also perform on February 13.

Grammys Give Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber Immediate iTunes Bump

Cee Lo, Esperanza Spalding, Lady Antebellum and more also see post-show sales increases.
By Gil Kaufman

It didn’t take long for the big winners at Sunday night’s Grammy Awards to get an iTunes bump. Less than 24 hours after the show, the iTunes singles and albums charts were flooded with songs that were either performed on the show or which won awards during the program.

At press time on Tuesday morning (February 15), the iTunes singles tally was topped, not surprisingly, by Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way,” which got its televised debut during the show, followed by Dr. Dre’s “I Need a Doctor,” which Eminem and Dre (making his first televised performance in nearly a decade) also performed on the show.

Justin Bieber’s “Never Say Never” was at #3, followed by Cee Lo Green’s “F— You,” which was one of the most colorful and bizarre live spots in the three-and-a-half-hour show thanks to his outer-space Henson Puppet band and a cameo from a sultry Gwyneth Paltrow.

Mumford & Sons also got some iTunes love after playing on the show with folk legend Bob Dylan, which helped their song “The Cave” hit #5, followed by the night’s big Grammy victors, Lady Antebellum, and their Song and Record of the Year winner, “Need You Now.”

Although she didn’t perform “Firework” on the Grammys, Katy Perry’s anthem hung in at #7, ahead of Rihanna, who had two shots onstage at the Grammys. Her “S&M,” whose video is the subject of legal action, came in at #8, with Bruno Mars‘ “Grenade” and non-Grammy performer Avril Lavigne’s “What the Hell” rounding out the top 10.

Just outside the top 10, there were plenty more Grammy bumps to be found: Cee Lo’s censored “Forget You” (#11), Mumford & Sons’ “Little Lion Man” (#12), Muse’s “Uprising” (#20), Rihanna and Drake’s “What’s My Name?” (#21), Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie” (#24) and Florence and the Machine’s “Dog Days Are Over” (#29).

The iTunes album chart told a similar story, with Mumford’s Sigh No More holding on to the #1 slot, followed by Bieber’s Never Say Never remixes disc, Album of the Year winner the Arcade Fire’s The Suburbs was back in play at #3, proceeded by Grammy performers the Avett Brothers’ I and Love and You at #4, with Best New Artist Esperanza Spalding’s Chamber Music Society climbing to #6.

Other Grammy album action included: Lady Antebellum’s Need You Now (#7), Bieber’s My World 2.0 (#8), Eminem’s Recovery (#9), Rihanna’s Loud (#10), Florence and the Machine’s Lungs (#11), Bieber’s My Worlds Acoustic (#12), the 2011 Grammy Nominees compilation (#14), as well as albums by the Black Keys (#17), Muse (#19), Bruno Mars (#21) and Spalding’s 2009 Esperanza release (#28).

Katy Perry Praises Beyonce In Elle

‘I think diva is a great and powerful word in the sense of what Beyoncé makes it,’ the pop star says in the magazine’s cover story.
By Jocelyn Vena

Katy Perry not only glams up for the new issue of Elle, but she also gets real. The singer — who is gearing up for a big performance on this Sunday’s Grammy Awards — dishes on diva behavior, discusses her personal life and even reveals how much she weighs in the fashion magazine’s latest cover story.

“I feel like I’m at a point in my life right now where I could potentially stick around,” Perry says about her outlook on being a pop star. “I don’t feel like a diva, but I think diva is a great and powerful word in the sense of what Beyoncé makes it. And maybe I can’t be Beyoncé, but maybe I can be Cyndi Lauper. I mean be like her, not be her. That would just be weird.”

The singer also admits to having some ambitions outside of the entertainment world. “I think some people will die on the stage, and I’m not so sure I want to do that. Like, I want to have kids!” she explains. “I’m totally fine with saying that. I think some people are scared because they’re worried it’s going to ruin their career, but I want to live a full life.”

That full life, these days, includes her hubby, Russell Brand, who she says is her perfect better half. “Everything clicked really fast. We kind of instantly got past all the surfacey stuff. And ever since then, there hasn’t been a dull moment,” she says. “We both needed balance, and we give that to each other. It wasn’t about me taming him, which is what everyone always says — it was about timing.”

Perry doesn’t hold back at all, revealing details about her weight that very few celebrities seem willing to share with the world. “I was shaped like a square at one time. I was! I’m generally around 130 pounds, which is totally fine for me,” she confesses. “But when I was a kid, I was the same height and weighed more like 145. And I had enormous boobs that I didn’t know what to do with, so I wore minimizers, which were not cute. Those thick-ass straps! I got made fun of for the over-the-shoulder boulder holder … and all I wanted was to look like Kate Moss. Little did I know … that these things would come in handy someday.”

What do you think about Katy’s Elle confessions? Share your thoughts in the comments.

Lil Wayne Producer Bangladesh Plans Future Collaborations With Ke$ha

‘It gives her a whole new look and it shows how creative I am,’ Grammy-nominated producer says of Cannibal singer.
By Jayson Rodriguez

Producer Bangladesh‘s biggest break came when he powered Lil Wayne‘s “A Milli.” Then he upped the ante on Weezy’s recent release “6 Foot 7 Foot.” So, what does the Grammy-nominated beatsmith have in store for the new year? More of the same, actually.

Bangladesh hopes to continue his genre-bending ways, whether it’s lending rock-leaning sensibilities to Lil Wayne or injecting a pop star’s work with edgy hip-hop drums. He and Dr. Luke (Britney Spears, Pink, Katy Perry) recently worked together on Ke$ha’s “Sleazy,” from her Cannibal LP.

“I met Luke through a mutual friend, so it was like me walking into a stranger’s house,” Bangladesh told MTV News. “I really didn’t know what to expect. But it was all love. It was kind of like the roles were reversed, like I was the biggest producer and he just had a couple of hits. Once I saw how he felt about me, I was like man, I might be the truth. [He laughs.]”

After hitting it off, they joined forces for “Sleazy,” the first of many collaborations Bangladesh is shooting for with the “Tik Tok” star.

“That’s a good look, because it gives her a whole new look and it shows how creative I am,” he explained. “It shows how music is changing. And it shows that I’m kind of the changer behind it. The leader. I’m trying to mix the different genres where it’s still convincing, like, I believe them doing this.”

Lady Gaga Previews Born This Way Tracks

Rolling Stone heard four new songs, which seem to draw from the past while still pushing the envelope.
By MTV News Staff Report

Lady Gaga Announces HBO Monster Ball Special

‘Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour at Madison Square Garden’ airs May 7.
By Gil Kaufman

Lady Gaga could not remember much about her celebration on Sunday night after winning three Grammy Awards, but during a Monday appearance on “The Tonight Show With Jay Leno,” she did manage to recall that she had yet another big announcement to make.

“Oh, this is a very exciting new announcement,” she said during the appearance, in which she revealed that she and Madonna have no beef over Gaga’s smash single “Born This Way,” which some critics and fans have said resembles some of Madonna’s 1990s work. “I am going to be taping a special for HBO of the Monster Ball.” HBO confirmed on Tuesday (February 15) that the singer’s first solo HBO concert special will air on May 7. The program will be taped during Gaga’s February 21-22 shows at Madison Square Garden and will be titled “Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour at Madison Square Garden.”

“Lady Gaga is the single most exciting music talent on the scene today,” said HBO president Sue Naegle in a statement announcing the deal. “We’re especially thrilled that she’ll be creating unique new elements for the special that will make the show an even more memorable experience for our viewers.”

The HBO show will begin airing a few weeks before the release of Gaga’s highly anticipated Born This Way album, which hits stores on May 23. It will be directed by Laurieann Gibson, who has choreographed most of Lady Gaga’s videos, including “Poker Face,” “Paparazzi,” “Telephone,” “Alejandro” and “Bad Romance.”

Gaga also dropped the news that the “Born This Way” video will be out soon and that it is a collaboration between her own Haus of Gaga and fashion photographer Nick Knight.

The singer admitted that she didn’t remember much about Sunday night’s post-Grammy party, but she remembers that “it was fun. I do remember being called ‘drunky Gaga.’ ” Renowned for her elaborate entrances, Gaga said that Hussein Chalayan, the Turkish designer behind the egg-shaped device in which she was carried into the Grammys, wanted to make sure everyone knew it should be referred to as a “vessel.” Joking (we think), Gaga told Leno she spent three days inside the temperature-controlled device.

Gaga also explained that the “vessel” was intended to signify rebirth, specifically the birth of a new race “with no prejudice … against anyone.”

Rihanna, Kanye West Bring ‘All Of The Lights’ To All-Star Game

Duo perform hit new single at half-time of NBA super contest.
By Shawn Adler

Hometown hero Kobe Bryant may have blistered the Eastern Conference during the first half of Sunday night’s (February 20) NBA All-Star Game, but it took Rihanna , Drake, and Kanye West to bring the Los Angeles crowd to their feet, with a rollicking performance during half-time of the gala sporting event.

Wearing a jet black ensemble and flanked on either side by string instrumentalists, RiRi opened the set with an orchestral arrangement of her hit “Umbrella,” before segueing into the faster tempo of “Only Girl” and “Rude Boy.”

Rihanna was joined on stage for her fourth song when collaborator and rumored former paramour Drake jumped up from the audience to sing the duo’s hit “What’s My Name.”

The rapper might have even scored the most points of the night by managing to work “Happy Birthday” into the song’s lyrics for Rihanna, who was celebrating turning 23-years-old.

But with apologies to Drake (and Chris Paul), the assist of the evening came from Kanye West, who made a surprise appearance at the Staples Center to join Rihanna in singing the pair’s new single, “All Of The Lights,” just one day after the release of the song’s video.

Backed by three large video screens that flashed disorienting, bright colors at lightning speeds, the performance was almost a recreation of the video, in fact, particularly the section inspired by Gaspar Noe’s 2009 French film “Enter the Void.”

As with any All-Star game, though, all the stars weren’t on stage. While Rihanna, Drake, and Kanye performed, Jay-Z, Sean Combs, and MVP of the celebrity All-Star game Justin Bieber among others sat courtside.

Justin Bieber’s ‘Baby’: Story Behind The ‘Glee’ Cover

Hit show covered two Bieber songs on Tuesday night’s episode.
By Aly Semigran

“Glee” cast on Tuesday’s episode
Photo: FOX

Just in time to mend the wounded hearts of Justin Bieber fans still reeling from his Grammy loss on Sunday, “Glee” paid tribute to the pop powerhouse the best way they know how: by covering two of his hit songs, “Baby” and “Somebody to Love.”

During Tuesday night’s new episode, “Comeback,” Chord Overstreet’s worrisome Sam attempts to woo back his possibly straying lady (Dianna Agron) by serenading her in glee club’s practice room with a rendition of Bieber’s “Baby.”

But before a Bieber-ized Chord (The purple hoodie! The hair!) belted out the simple yet addictive chorus — “I was like, baby, baby, baby, ooh,” — on the show, the song, and its subsequent video, helped propel Bieber to staggering fame.

Released as the lead single off of Bieber’s gold-certified debut studio album My World 2.0, “Baby” first hit the airwaves in late January 2010. The song begins quietly, with Bieber harmonizing accompanied by a guitar, and unfolds into a three-and-a-half-minute unapologetic pop/R&B smash.

Bieber co-wrote the track with rapper Ludacris (who appears on the song), Christina Milian, and Christopher “Tricky” Stewart and Terius “The-Dream” Nash (both of whom also worked with the 16-year-old on his single “One Time”), and it has been his biggest single to date.

Though it never reached #1 on the Billboard charts (it debuted at #5 on the Hot 100) in the United States, nor in Bieber’s native Canada, “Baby” became certified platinum the world over. The song fared even better as a digital download, going to #1 in the U.S. after it was released on March 23, 2010.

Bieber continued to bring “Baby” to the masses, performing the song on various TV programs like “Saturday Night Live” (he was the musical guest on April 10, 2010), “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” “The Kids Choice Awards” and the “Today” show, in which throngs of Beliebers showed up on the plaza at Rockefeller Center to sing along.

But it’s the music video for “Baby” that’s made the biggest impact. The clip features cameos by Bieber’s friend and fellow Canadian performer Drake, as well as “Baby” collaborator Lucadris. ‘Cris, who first met Bieber in Atlanta in 2009, told MTV News last year that the video reminded him of “a 2010 version of Michael Jackson’s ‘The Way You Make Me Feel.’ ”

While Ludacris predicted, “Mark my word, ['Baby' is] going to be one of the biggest songs of the year 2010,” there was no indication of things to come for the video.

Last week, ReadWriteWeb.com reported that Bieber’s “Baby” clip is the most-watched YouTube video of all time. It currently has a staggering 463,506,023 hits, besting other viral vids like Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” and “Charlie Bit Me.”

Since then, the song has been included on the compilation album Now 34: That’s What I Call Music! and is currently featured in Bieber’s 3-D documentary/concert film “Never Say Never” and has been used in the movie’s trailers. The G-rated movie earned an impressive $30.3 million in its opening weekend.

What did you think of the “Glee” renditions of Bieber’s songs? Tell us in the comments.

Justin Bieber’s ‘CSI’ Appearance: A Cheat Sheet

Everything you need to know before Thursday’s (February 17) episode.
By Jocelyn Vena

Justin Bieber appears on “CSI”
Photo: CBS

Last September, Justin Bieber made his first of two appearances on “CSI.” In the episode, he played a troubled teen named Jason McCann. Amid plot twists and bomb explosions, fans were left wondering if young Jason was more trouble than he seemed.

Bieber returned to the “CSI” set in January, and while on set, he was hospitalized with an allergic reaction. But Bieber was fine enough to finish shooting his big second episode, “A Target of Obsession,” which airs Thursday night (February 17).

“CSI” star George Eads, who plays Bieber’s foil in the episode (Nick Stokes), revealed that Jason wouldn’t live to see another day by the episode’s end. “One of my crew guys goes, ‘Man, you’re going to split the country down the middle — half of them are going to hate you and half of them are going to love you,’ ” Eads said. “In the context of the story, he deserved it. I think in a way I was also at fault for killing Taylor Swift, too. Man, I’m going to have to stay away from a lot of people. Tell Miley Cyrus not to come on our show.”

Bieber told MTV News earlier this month that he really loved being involved in the whole process of making the episode, including his fake death.

“Yeah, I get killed in the episode. I definitely get murdered,” he revealed. “It was really cool because I actually — I get shot, like, several times,” he revealed. “I fall down, and there’s fake blood and everything. It’s crazy how the whole process is.”

Bieber also shared that he enjoyed stretching his bad-boy muscle for the part. “I’m not a bad person, so it’s funny to play a bad person,” he explained.

As for why the pop star chose “CSI” for his acting debut, he said, “I wanted to do something that’s going to be challenging for me, and it’s definitely going to be. It has been.”

Will you be watching Justin Bieber on “CSI”? Tell us below!

Britney Spears’ Manager Teases Her Next Single

‘It is a monster,’ Larry Rudolph tells MTV News about ‘Hold It Against Me’ follow-up.
By Jocelyn Vena

With a little more than a month to go before the March 29 release of Britney SpearsFemme Fatale, we spoke to her longtime manager, Larry Rudolph, on the same night her eagerly anticipated “Hold It Against Me” video premiered.

Rudolph revealed to MTV News during our “HIAM” live stream on Thursday night that fans will likely hear another new song before the album — executive-produced by Max Martin and Dr. Luke — comes out.

“We have a second song that I think we’re gonna end up putting out before the album drops,” he teased. “I can’t say with 100 percent certainty, but I think we probably will. But we’re talking about it now and it is a monster. It really is.”

Rudolph has been by Brit’s side since the beginning of her career, and he predicted that if fans love “HIAM,” then they’re in for a real treat with the next song.

“I don’t think I’ve been this excited about releasing a Britney single in many, many years,” he added. “It’s that good. That’s all I’m gonna say about it at the moment. I haven’t heard a final mix of it, but I should get it in the next day or two. So far, what I’ve heard is just extraordinary. It really is amazing. Her fans will be very happy with it. I’m trying hard to get it out before the album comes out.”

Spears teased some upcoming promotional plans for the album last week during a Twitter Q&A. “I’m doing a lot of promo,” she said. “There will be some major announcements in the next few days.” She added, “I’m thinking about the tour right now and I would [love] to visit a lot of places I didn’t get to go to on my last tour.”
